Do a reinstall, I think it's an issue with the partition table.
On my original install my Partition2 was my OSX partition so I chose the corect one and then I got this error.
On my next install Partition2 was correctly labled and it worked after that.

same thing happened to me. i reinstalled, and the partition table changed to how it was supposed to look, i chose #2 and everything worked after that.

I too had my Windows icon flip upside down after choosing it to boot.
I had no errors on install. After the logo flips, I wait and nothing happens. If I hit return again the system resets/reboots.
When you say reinstall, do you just mean reinstall Windows? Or do you mean go through the complete process of repartitioning and OS X install?
I made my Windows partition smaller than the Mac one. Would that make a difference?
Thanks folks, we're going to get through this in one piece.

Yup, same here, 2GHz MacBook Pro. I did notice that the partition was changed to 3 when I selected it in the Windows installer. I will try just reinstalling windows first, but am I supposed to reinstall Mac OS X also?

I reformatted again with just reinstalling XP and it came up correctly for Partition2. Will see in about 30 minutes :)

Happened again, I did a quick format, will try a slow format now.

i had the same problem, i believe it was because in Disk Utility i had the HFS partition on top and MSDOS partition under it.
i reformatted with MSDOS on top, HFS on bottom. this made it so Partition2 was the MSDOS partition.
afaik, if the Windows logo flips upside down, your install didn't work. if the color Windows logo turns into a greyscale logo, it's working.

Okay, I reinstalled Windows again. This time I did full format of the Windows partition instead of the quick format. The quick format musn't have worked properly the first time.
Files went through properly and it booted after restart, only to say that there are missing files and the install is aborted.
I will try to build a new Windows install disk and see if that does the trick.

Slow format, same thing. Maybe a complete reinstall then. Not looking forward to this.

Mine did this the first try, and corrected itself the second try. The details:
- instructions were followed precisely
- first attempt, I chose FAT / Fast, which used FAT32 due to disk size
- upside down logo after restart / selecting windows
- restarted (by hitting enter) and pressed a key to boot from CD, and tried again
- chose second partition again, but this time selected NTFS/Slow
Then it worked (so far). I'm on phase two now.

Success. That worked fine.

I had the same issue with my MacBook Pro.
Re-installing it fixed the problem.
The first time I booted into the XP installer the partition map didn't match the one in the step-by-step guide.
The second time I booted into the XP installer it did.
Both times I chose NTFS / Quick.
My guess is that you could save yourself some time on an initial install by letting the installer proceed far enough in to finish the format of the partition, then rebooting and starting the XP install over again.

I have reinstalled many a time doing the same method and nothing. I still haven't successfully installed. I have tried two different disk types (dell oem sp2 and Microsoft MSDN sp2). What I was looking for was the repair option and exit to command prompt. I think a standard fdisk /mbr would fix the problem as the mbr is probably corrupt. But without a full install, it doesn't come up.
I have a MBPro, and not sure what I will do until they get drivers to control the fans. That could kill the laptop though and knowing Apple, won't replace it under warranty.

I'm TOTALLY confused. You guys say if I see the upside down windows logo, that you reinstalled windows? How did you do that? I put in the windows disc, and select windows, then the upsidedown logo comes up. How can I reinstall? or get the installer to start WITHOUT erasing mac OS X as well?
Somebody said there is a key combination?
