I would imagine so. The only real question is SP2. Is your upgrade SP2? If not, you might want to use autostreamer to slipstream in the service pack before you upgrade.
Of course, I'm not certain, since I don't know if the upgrade messes with the already installed SP2 pieces of Windows.
If you just recently installed XP Home, it's not going to be too much work to start all over if things go badly.

I tried to do the professional install and it came to my personal favorite Microsoft mark. BSOD. It said UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME thinking that that was that I reset booted back to windows but now im stuck with a screen that makes me choose between Windows XP home and Professional Setup any way to get rid of it?

I had a similar thing happen when I tried to install XP Home over Professional. I'm sure there's an easy way to delete it, but I just deleted the partition and started over, rather than figuring out how. Of course, I had to so I could install Home instead of Pro, while you already have the one you want to keep installed. Suggestions anyone?

The trick in these situations is usually to do a repair install of the upgrade (which in this case had better be slipstreamed) instead of a full installation. You may still be able to do a repair install using your slipstreamed XP Pro SP2 CD.
