View Full Version : install process freezes at 0%

It seems that some people have problems with installing XP on a MacMini (including me :( )
The whole installation process works fine (creating install cd, installing OSX, booting from XP cd) until the real XP installtion progress bar shows up (blue background, yellow progress bar). It says 0% and nothing more happens.
At the moment it seems that this problem is MacMini specific (Solo and Dual Core, 512MB and 1GB). Please let us know if somebody else has the same problem or even better - an idea to fix it....
thanks,
Michael
(there is a thread at osx86project: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=12244 about this problem)

Bump.
I have tried a number of different XP volume license brews and all of mine have required the F6/Enter trick but they all still hang at 0%on the copying files screen.

Apparently all you need to do is change the resolution in OS X to something higher then 800x600.
macmcmac's message:
Boot into OS X. Change to a higher screen resolution than 800x600 and try again. I picked 1400x1050, and it worked first time.

Ok... I'm on a 20" iMac... and the SAME problem is happening to me.
Any update on how this is supposed to be fixed?
I tried a different screen resolution, but that just wouldn't even load ANYTHING!
What I'm getting is... after choosing/quick format of the NTFS partition... is creates the folders... or says it does... but then when it goes to copy the files... hangs at 0%... and eventually the hard disks spin down... and I've rebooted.
Now, when I'm back in OSX... the drive shows up as a FAT drive... NOT an NTFS formatted drive!!!!
Also, I'm a newbie to post here... but this is sad... in the registering a new screen name... Safari in OS X wouldn't let me register. Had to use my Winblows PC. The stupid security check system wouldn't work correctly under OSX.
How sad is that? Come ON, GUYS... fix that? How many MORE newbies can't register?>?????

you need to set your monitor resolution to 1280 * 1024. that will solve that initial setup issue.

No Dice. The 20" iMac only has 1024x768, 1280x800, or 1680x1050... NONE of which work.
Any more progress???? Anyone can put me in touch with whoever is writing this to help figure it out? PLEASE?

Hello,
Just to say I had the trouble some times in my tests, and simply succeed by rebooting the mac (mini monocore) and use the old apple-alt-P-R... after what, the trouble was over.
Hope this help.
