I'm having trouble installing on a 17" Intel iMac. I've tried this 4 times now, same results. Here's what's happening:

The partitioning scheme got messed up at one point in my first install. If you ever run into the installed drive not being bootable anymore, here's how to fix it:

diskutil partitionDisk disk0 2 GPTFormat "MS-DOS FAT32" "XP" 40G "Journaled HFS+" "Mac OS X" 107G

Change the sizes to suit your needs. That re-creates the GUID partitioning scheme, despite Disk Utility's inability to do so from the Mac OS X installer.

However, once I get it installed and bless the file/folder combination, I try installing XP Pro SP2. I'm using the XP Pro SP2 folder that is part of the MSDN subscription, and it appears to almost work. If this is the problem, I'll try hunting down a real XP install disc somewhere.

So, I boot into the installer. Everything goes well, until it lists the partitions incorrectly: 200MB EFI, 40G (roughly) unpartitioned space, and 107 unknown. I reboot into Mac OS X (which still works), and my XP disk is nowhere to be found anymore. Beyond that, now if I do a "diskutil list", it says my partitioning scheme is FDisk_partition_scheme. This was all working before I booted into the XP installer.

Anyone else run into something like this? Anyone figure out how to make it work?

Thanks for all the good work in getting it this far. It's quite exciting :)

that's the same issue I had.

when you boot the xp cd, select the unpartitioned space. let it format it and copy files and do it's windows thing.

when it restarts, dont take the disk out and go back into the installer.

at this point, you should see a partition2 and hopefully it's ntfs. rerun the installer on this drive.

once it's done the second time take the disk out when you restart and see what happens.

i went thru this problem like 6-7 times yesterday till someone mentioned doing the install twice.

it's up and running now for me

Yea, that originally happened to me, then I stumbled upon doing it twice :)
