hi all, i plan to purchase a 20" imac with 1GB ram and 256 x1600. I was reading some posts and you guys seem pretty knowledgable about Hardware and MACS as well. I'd like to know what CS SOURCE performs like this imac configuration with high settings, 2xAA, 4xAF, 1024x780. I've searched the internet and these forums and seen some overclocking GPU threads. I was wondering if i SLIGHTLY oc'd the GPU (lets say 440/440, dont want to kill my imac!) will the x1600 be able to handle the demanding but important features of AA AND AF.

(IF) it would be possible for anyone to provide pictures and/or videos of CS source playing on these settings on an imac, and links to benchmarks...

REMEMBER THATS IF YOU CAN PROVIDE THAT.

thanks guys for the response in advance greatly appreciate it.

You should be able to run CSS at those settings and get over 80fps average. You could actually run it at far higher settings at that resolution, or bump up the resolution to the native res of the iMac (1680x1050) and still get above 50fps with no AA and 4xAF. The x1600 is just that good. :)

Dude, the iMacs can run Prey and Oblivion, CSS is no sweat ^^

Don't worry about overclocking, you can't damage your computer with ATITools unless you play despite artifacting.

I'm at 445/499 from the low 300's and not a prob.

Runs CSS great. Can certainly get 2x AA with 1024. You can have a higher res too, with all settings on high....it will still run like butta. CSS doesn't sweat, but then again, CSS's engine is fairly simple to produce these days. ANY midrange video card handles CSS np. Prey, on the other hand, runs "alright" not amazing. Compared to "real" gaming riggs, it looks like crap actually :). If you tweak Prey's settings, you can get it looking pretty good though...but not perfect. Framerate will stutter here and there. If you plan to use your iMac as a gaming rig, you will be dissapointed. It's at the end of its lifespan. Games coming out today get rocked by x1600 256. If all you want to play is CSS, you're golden dude :).

cool thanks everyone.

although, since nobody replied in a very long time, and money constraints lol, i decided i'm going with a 17" Stock with 1GB of RAM. i'm sure this can push out graphics VERY equivlent to the specs i originally had above...:D

thanks

What settings and resolution are you guys playing on? I m using the maxed res and max settings(Well no AA or AF or HDR ) for my 2.16ghz MBP and i dont get 100fps+ constantlly. Maybe if i stare at a wall i get over 100 fps but when i go fragging it shoots down to 50-70

I left mine default and ran the video stress test and it said i was getting in the 100s, but I put the in-game moniter up and I was getting in the high 90s in the middle of a firefight.

Absolutely CSS will run great!

With the iMac's dual core processor, the Radeon x1600, 1GB of lightning fast RAM, your set to go.

CSS might drop a bit, rarely though (remember, *might* drop).
