View Full Version : New 24" iMac: No Windows possible

Tip

because the disply stays black: you can not see anything.

It is a pure Mac

Isn't it a shame because Apple konws the problem longer than just some days and doesn't tell anything to potential customers?
And I have sold my PC the same day my 24" iMac arrived....

Have you installed the most recent Bootcamp 1.1.1?

Are you using a XP SP2 Home or Professional CD for the install?

Have you tried hooking up an external Monitor to the DVI out and see if that helps?

And if you're tech savy enough or can find a guide....i suggest using programs like "nLite" to slipstream the bootcamp drivers directly into your install CD, so they are there from the start if nothign else helps.

Yeah, I'm really doubtful that Boot Camp won't work on the new iMacs. Don't just jump to conclusions.

Only problem is that the screensaver / power management wont work.

It does not work, does not work does not work.

The screen stays black when booting a Windows oder Linux CD.
No matter what version.
Has nothing to do with bootcamp version.
Is a fact - no speculation.
Have a look at Apple discussions if you do not believe this!

I'm confused. What do you mean by "a Windows oder Linux CD". Do you mean that Linux won't work? I've read posts by several people that state that they've gotten XP running on 24" iMacs.

Stop whining before we call the whambulance, if you needed a PC so bad, go buy a PC and get rid of the mac. Bootcamp works perfectly fine with a REAL XP SP2 disc, not your ghetto Windows "oder" linux CD, whatever the hell that is.

"oder" is the german word for "or", so i asume he is a "i've got no clue" german whiner baby

I mean, it apears as tho he didn't even read my 1. post.

Did you try hooking up an external Monitor?
1920x1200 is a pretty high resolution......
Though i am not sure, that MIGHT need dual link DVI internaly, and that might not be correctly implemented in the EFI Bios Emulation.....

I mean, don't you think it's odd that the 24" iMac is the only one of the full featured iMacs that don't come with the ATI Mobility Radeon x1600 but with either a 7300 or 7600 nVidia Card? That has to be there for a reason, a reason that makes the x1600 unsuitable because...why even go there if it isn't needed?
And the Mac Pro too has a 7300 in it for being able to drive the Dual Link 30" Cinema Display

So THEORETICALY that could explain why your screen stays black, because the Bios Emulation doesn't know how to correctly send signals to such a high res screen.

That is why i said try attaching a 2nd Monitor to the iMacs DVI Out, or VGA via Adapter.

See if you can get a picture on that before you put blame on apple being demonicaly evil and trying to ruin your life specificaly by making a Mac that wasn't designed 100% Windows Friendly running "BETA SOFTWARE"

You're right "oder" is a german typo for "or"

I tried out all thinkable. Second Display. Two hours of Apple support contact , 2nd-level support - they all really don't nothing exact.
I even did a complete install of windows "blind", using my MacBook as a guidance (installing Windows in parallel).
So I have shure a complete Windows on its hd but no screen.

All I know untill know ist, that some iMac run Windows flawlessly and some don't.
Nobody knows why.
It does no matter which graphics card the have. SMC and Boot ROM versions are the same in all models sold till now.

I beleve it has to do with a similar problem with Mac Pro connected to a 23" display: They too get black screens when booting from Windows or Linux.

Typo again: should have been:

- they all really don't know anyhing exact

I think I can put this one to bed; imac 24" Core 2 Duo, 2Gb, 250Gb, external 24" on DVI. I'm typing on it right now so, next problem... the screensaver bug from the MBP appears to have re-appeared on this platform; I wonder if the PRO EFI update can be applied here and if so does it fix it?

Sorry to sound crass but I can put the can it / can't it to bed; I installed on Bootcamp 1.1 then updated to 1.1.1. It worked a treat.

If you look at the right thread in Apple Discussions -> Boot Camp
than you wil find a report from a guy installing Windows at 6 iMac 24" with the same CD.
Result was: 3 worked and 3 got the black screen.

I have successfully installed Windows XP Professional x86 Edition, Vista RC1 and Mandriva Linux 2007 on my 24" iMac.
But, sometimes, keyboard and mouse don't work when I launch Windows or Linux.

rEFIt 0.8 is compatible with this computer.

The graphic card is the GeForce 7600GT with 256 MB RAM.
