Hey guys!
I'm wondering: Has anybody managed to play a game on XP yet? Some small game maybe, like Soldat or just something that wouldn't work on VPC?
Or are you guys still looking for graphics drivers?
Greetings

I can play whatever game I want on XP.
I think you need to ask think about your question. Try "Anybody managed to play a (3D?) game on XP on a Mac?" :p

I don't think that lothar250 needs to be THAT specific since we are on a site that is about running windows XP ON a Mac and most games that people are concerned about ARE 3D.

His video was a little misleading:
-There are network drivers
-To enable full screen, he needs to go into video console and adjust to his screen res
-There are video drivers

Age of Empires II plays very well. Quake 3 Arena demo runs solidly at 90fps. I was unable to get Battlefield 1942 demo to load (some error about not being able to create a 3D something).
On a similar topic, I've run a couple benchmarks. AquaMark gave my mini (core duo) a score of 10,390. 3DMark '03 gave the mini 1149 3DMarks. Overall, the Mini doesn't do too bad for a low-end machine. However, the GPU is clearly the bottleneck in the performance.

At the time they recorded the show they probably didn't have that information.

I've got the CoreDuo Mini and I've managed to run the Half-Life 2 demo although I'm at work just now so can't get frame rates for you. I'll do so when I get home if someone can tell me how (maybe it's obvious, I've not looked yet)
No sound yet though, which is a bit disappointing. :(

Has anyone tried Half-Life 1 or 2 - or mods for them - on a macbook?
I'm mostly interested in TFC, and maybe DOD:S and CS:S.

On another forum someone claims to have gotten x1600 drivers [mostly] working on MacBook Pro and link to a video showing Half-Life 2 running on MBP. It's a bit laggy but seems legit.

That looks to be like they're still using the software accelerator - maybe they've streamlined it a bit, but that certainly doesn't look like something rendered by an up-to-date ATI GPU

Perhaps some of the lagginess is due to the compression/YouTube... I guess, the main question is does HL2 run on anyone's MBP/iMac right now? If not, than those guys have improved something...

I don't think it's the compression. If you look at the way the camera moves at the beginning all it causes is a bit of blurring - not a slow frame rate

I have tried Need For Speed Porsche edition (all graphic options on) and Need for Speed Underground (medium and high detail) on a Mini Core Duo, and found no problem at all (apart sound driver, but hope it will be soon fixed).
Tried also 3dMark2001 and runs all tests OK excepted for the fill test.

Via Boot Camp all of the below ran perfectly:
F.E.A.R.
Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2 Episode 1
Far-Cry
Brothers in Arms (both)
Rome: Total War (and Barbarians expansion)
SIMS 2 to Business - Not my game!
Medal of Honour (all packs)
Sniper Elite ran perfectly (didn't even exhibit the sound crash problems I get on my PC with CLabs Audigy 2)
My grandchildern loaded several more and didn't appear to run into any problems.
These are about the most intense games I could throw at the MacPro and they all ran brilliantly. Side by side with my AMD 64x2 4600+ there were no differences in game play. So long as the Apple devs keep on top of the latest and greatest from nVidia and ATi they should be able to hold their heads high against high-end (though I doubt the most geeky & esoteric) PC's for playing games. Now, wouldn't that be something?!
