Hi, i thought i would try this because it seemed easy....
Heres the deal...
I have a 24" Intel Imac. At first i tried doing the Xom method, everything was going great untill i needed to "bless" it wouldnt work, the last command was not recognised and it said i couldnt use the '--SetBoot' option... oh well.. Restart and it wont give me the boot option...
Screw it.
So i look into Boot Camp, looks simple. Download it, run it. Burn the disks, it checks my win xp cd and reboots...
Windows installation runs, takes ages, installes... everything looks super.
I picked a 65gig partition i made (FAT) and it installed.
After installation it restarted... took a while on a white screen then ejected the disk. It then went to a black screen.
"Disk error - Press any key" No respond from the keyboard....
At this point im thinking screw it again. So i restart with the button.
It then keeps going back to disk error.... i reboot again holding down C... Still goes into DOS....
The deal is, it would be great to have XP but i really want to boot into mac in the meantime...
Im probably missing something quite straight forwards, but i need help.
Ive also noticed that there isnt any mention of the 24" imac around....
Thanks!

I have the same system, and I didn't have any (significant) problems getting BootCamp to load and run Windows. However, I didn't try Xom at all, and I didn't try to go with a FAT partition. I just went with NTFS, as that is generally offers better stability and (marginally) improved performance when running Windows. (Don't really know why that is... but I know that it is, from my own experiences.) So while it might be inconvenient to not be able to write directly to your Windows partition from MacOS, I'd suggest that it's a reasonable trade-off.
Regarding Xom changing the default drive: Holding the "C" key down only tells the system to boot from the optical drive during the current session. What you wanted to do was hold down the "option" key; that gives you Apple's onboard boot manager, which allows you to choose a hard drive from which to boot for the current session. I keep my system defaulted to MacOS, and only boot into Windows via the boot manager... usually during LAN parties. :D
And just in case you run into the same issue I had: If you bought the Bluetooth wireless keyboard and mouse, be warned; you're probably going to have some difficulties convincing them to pair up correctly with Windows. (The problem isn't consistent, so I can't be certain exactly how it will exhibit.) I gave up trying to debug it myself: at this point, I just go through the same drill every time I load windows... click the mouse button to get it to work, and then cycle the power on the keyboard and press "enter". The two will essentially operate in non-authenticated mode until you reboot again. (Edit: I would also recommend that you keep a wired USB mouse & keyboard on-hand, to get you back to a functional state in the event that the Bluetooth drivers croak for some reason.)

I am also having the same problem with the "disk error" and "press any key to restart " item... I have had this after 6 or seven different websites and discussion boards and restarts repartioning and using different programs to get my windowsinstallation going... I am always able to get through the setup, prior to the reboot, but when i reboot I am always receiving the disk error message... doesn't anyone else have this? What did you and I do that we keep having this same 'Groundhog's Day' nightmare???

I had similar trouble installing Boot Camp 1.3 and Windows XP on my Mac Pro. I had the 250GB drive that came with the machine in Bay 1 and a new 400GB drive in Bay 2. I created a partition on Drive 2 (32GB) with Boot Camp and ran the installer. However, the installer never gave me the option to format the drive (should have option to format as FAT32 or NTFS). Other than that, it seemed to complete the install, but when it rebooted itself to continue the install, I got the "Disk Error, press any key to restart" message. Here's what I did to get a successful install:
I pulled Drive 1 out of the computer (I had Mac OS installed on Drive 2 as well). I ran the Windows installer and THIS time I got the option to format the drive! I used FAT32 on a 32GB partition. And this time, when the reboot happened, it actually booted into Windows (never thought I'd be glad to see that). However, when I put Drive 1 back in the computer, I again got the disk error. So I pulled both drives and swapped their positions (Drive 1 in Bay 2 and Drive 2 in Bay 1).
This did the trick, for whatever the reason, it seems to prefer that the Windows drive is in Bay 1. Though I don't know how that helps the iMac users with only 1 drive... ;)

Had the same "Disk error" message as reported in earlier posts. Did two things that seemed to to fix it. (Sorry, I don't know whether it was the combination of both, or just one of them, that made the difference).
Firstly, during the first part I clicked on the "32Gb" button to make that the size for the Windows partition. [I had previously been trying to make the partition 40Gb]
Secondly, during the Windows installation, I made sure that I actually re-formatted the partition as FAT (which Windows kindly offered to make FAT32), rather than just "Leave the file system intact". I read somewhere that this makes a difference.
Good luck
