This is my first post after being around in this forum unregistered for some days. I like to thank all the guys here for being so busy finding out solutions - this helped me along getting XP going to work on my iMac 20".

Anyway. Here my suggestion for Colin or others getting along with my idea. Whilst trying to make XP run I found it not an easy part because of the different distributions of XP. Besides the "Home" and "Professional" versions there seem to be "zillions" of other versions around - let alone the different language distributions, which makes it even harder to get just "the one and only" version which makes installing a snap.

As far as it relates to my efforts, I found this German version (with SP2) *not* working at all:

Version 2002, 0504, Artikelnr. X10-59874-DE

The information can be found on the holographic CD-label. This distribution is part of a "3 CD set", Microsoft is selling as a dealer installation kit here in Germany for new PCs.

After struggling around with other distributions I found one English version working which even lets me see the startup-process of the installer inside a mini-screen on the top left corner of my 20" iMac (in opposite to the instructions, which where saying, I suppose to see nothing at all). Unfortunately I forgot to write down the Microsoft delivery code from the CD-label, which would be of help now to others. Sorry.

So I'm showing up with the idea to set up a list of XP-distributions which actually work - and which of course - not work at all. Would be nice to see such a list in Wiki as part of the already translated installation guides. Each country will definitely need another XP distribution.

This is in fact a great idea.

However, a quick remark: Working at a local Apple reseller, I had the opportunity to grab myself a mini, iMac 17" & a MBP 2.0GHz for my XoM testings. I noticed that the very same CD installed withouth problems on the mini & MBP, however, it did not on the iMac 17".

I was using a German XP SP2 with the modified file (.SIF) posted here on the boards.

What I want to say, just be careful with blacklisting XP Versions as "not working", cause this could lead to missunderstanding.

I used XP Pro SP2 and I got that little setup screen (the blue DOS screen right?) up in the top corner too. At first I was scared cause I thought Windows would be that small too haha. I don't know the exact build I used so I can't really post it up though

This is a perfect use for the wiki - I've set up the basic page. Please add the other versions. I'll ask one of the wiki admins to add it to the Users page.
