If I slipstreamed Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2, then followed the instructions to make the special install CD, would it work?

If you have the disk for XP home and you don't mind finding out that you wasted your time in the case that it doesn't work, then have at thee. If you try and it works, then people know they can work with home edition. if it doesn't work, you wasted some time and a blank CD-R.

Honestly the XP install takes:

3 minutes to load the installation
< 1 minute to format to NTFS (quick) + Choose partition
9 minutes to copy files
1 minute to restart into installation
16 minutes to finish installation

If there were any problems they would show up before or immediately after the 9 minute to copy files. So you can try it out in about 4 to 13 minutes :)

I installed XP a few times because I kept messing stuff up and during the downtime I timed the installation and it was consistently these times on my MBP 1.83 GHz with 1.5 GB RAM. Almost to the second.

And if you partition your hard drive to prepare for XP and XP home does not work, you could always keep the partition theere, get XP pro and install over the XP home by reformatting it via the windows setup. So you won't have to reinstall OS X.

In conclusion, you have nothing to lose in trying.

....:( but i'm good at that.... the tiniest possible details in everything are my life.....(that and making sure that they're all right:D)

and a CD-RW would probably be a good idea. I don't remember if one can be made into a boot disk, but since i just scratched up my last one, and my computer came with windows installed, i'm not gonna be the one to test this theory.

oh, and for dylpkls91, i find that erasing everything from a RW about 10 times will render the disk worthless.

CD-RWs can be used as boot disks, and I have erased most of mine much more than 10 times, although I expect the brand/quality does make a difference :)

That's good because if every CD-RW could only be erased 10 times... I think it would almost kind of defeat the purpose.

Wow, didn't mean to open a can of worms here...

My computer even crashes when I stick in a CDRW. Don't worry, its a PC. For some reason I can burn CDRs but not CDRWs.
