Hello!
Is there any option to install MacOSX and Win98 on a Mac? I really need windows, but I really really like Apple products :(

No, there isn't. Are you also aware Windows 98 isn't supported by Microsoft anymore?

That's not a problem for me...

...but now I must buy XP, I only have an OEM edition for my notebook

You do realize that it was a feat just to get XP booting on an Intel Mac, much less getting an unsupported version of Windows to be acknowledged lol, You could emulate, but thats it.

I do not expect you will be able to boot Windows 98 on an Intel-based Mac anytime soon. However, you should be able to get it running in Q (http://www.kberg.ch/q/) (an open-source PC emulator based on QEMU).

(I can't tell you if the DMG files contain Universal Binaries. If not, you will have to build it yourself. If that is the case, remember, "For Universal Binaries you have to apply Gwenole[']s patches and lipo the files together manually." In other words, you will need some skill (and xtools) to build a version of Q for your Intel-based Mac. More info might be available here (http://www.gibix.net/dokuwiki/en:projects:qemu#qemu_port_to_macos_x_for_intel).)

Q is Universal (you'll want the latest version found here (http://www.kberg.ch/q/)), but I had numerous problems with hangs, errors, etc. Apparently Windows 98 runs much better, so you could give it a try. However, all in all you'd probably be better off picking up a copy of XP.

I don't get it, why wouldn't Win 98 boot on Intel Macs? I know that it may be hard to get it to dual-boot with OSX, but on a non-partitioned single-OS HDD setup it should boot like any other Windows now that BIOS is supported in the Mac EFI firmware. Of course, the question is whether the chipset etc has corresponding Win 9x drivers but that's a driver issue not a boot issue...

My guess is that you could possibly install the OS, but it would be damn near unusable.

EDIT: The reason being that you'll need 98 Intel chipset drivers as well as network drivers and that sort of thing. Usually you use either a CD or a floppy to get drivers onto a 98 machine - I've had cases where the CD drive doesn't get detected because of the IDE drivers aren't correct, in which case you are pretty much on your own adn better have a floppy... a built-in floppy. Obviously, this could end up being a problem in this situation...
