I plan on printing this out and taking it in to a service center.

I'm soooo happy! My MacBook Pro got sooo extremely hot I could't even carry it across the room! NO KIDDING (running Windows I never had such extreme heat).
Does anyone know if they'll transfer the hardisk over... or do I have to back up?
I'm hoping to visit the Apple Store very soon...

This is my second MPB I'm running on. I started out with a 1.83GHz machine, found out I could get $200 off through work so returned that one, a week 8 machine. Got my 2.0GHz machine on Friday, a week 11 machine, the whine was TWICE as bad, and this one was significantly hotter, like uncomfortable. It also started mooing.
I doubt they'll transfer over your data. I'm kinda pissed about that, as I've had to install all my crap twice (including winduz,) which takes a whole damn weekend to get everything the way I want it. Now I'm gonna have to go through all of this for the third time?
Not happy!

According to the article, serial #'s with W8611 and better have addressed the errors. Mine is a W8612, and I must say I've no issues with Airport or screen flickering, but it DOES get hot as hell and has the "whine".

Do you have evidence that Apple is addressing the problem? Something in writting from Apple would be nice. I could find no evidence of this on the link you quoted. Other than that, all I see are testimonials from people who say they sent it back and got a replacement. Some even said that a replacement was on the way though they still had the original in their possesion. A little had to believe. Great if it's true, but hard to believe.

Well at least you did not have one where the video memory went bad. It is still waiting for the video memory on the 2.0 MBP. Who knows when it will be fixed!

I am going to try and bring mine in tommorow. I called the 1-800 number and they said to do that, the person I spoke to however was not aware of any of the details in the article. I forwarded him the article and it was news to him.

I took this article into work (university computer store), they contacted the Apple rep and are waiting to hear back.

My MacBooks whine seems so far to have went away with the 10.4.6 update

Mine is a newer MBP serial W8612, with whine and 10.4.6
Though the whine isn't a huge issue for me. It seems a patch will eventually fix it since running apps in the background such as photobooth makes it go away.

I brought my MBP Serial W8610 to the genius bar and they pretty much said it's not really that hot, and that I shouldn't worry. And so happen the whine is gone so they couldn't hear that either, so I guess I won't have a chance of getting mine replaced unless apple releases an official recall. My MBP does get bloody hot though, but I guess there isn't anything I can do for now.
Does anyone run there MBP with the lid closed when hooked up to a external monitor. I know all the heat vents from the keyboard, so is it dangerous? I figured it's not if the MBP doesn't sleep when you close the lid only when it's hooked up to an external monitor. Thanks1

This machine just has me feeling that AppleCare 3 year plan is REALLY needed. I mean they always say that heat is the biggest killer of electronics, and this bad bitch has plenty of it!
2 cents..
