If and when we get Windows XP running on a Mac, then would we finally be able to play high-end games like Counter-Strike: Source? (With a 2-button mouse attached of course). I ask because CS:S is pretty much the only reason I keep a Windows machine around. That and Computing coursework in Access

I thought people were coding their own drivers. Or possibly slipping ATI something under the table to make a Windows driver for that card!

Has anyone tried the Omega Radeon Drivers for XP (http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win2k_xp.php) I know they support all laptop chipsets as well as 99% of the desktop chipsets for oem pcs...so why not the apples if they use an ATI card? I'd try it myself but I dont have access to a new system yet.

It may not be so simple. People have successfully installed drivers, the problem that I'm reading is that the WinXPonMac VGA driver is locked in. The card is eve recognized in the Device Manager. We need someone with an adequate knowledge of Windows Internal workings to force the ATI Driver on the x1600 Mobility, instead of the locked VGA Driver, after it boots.

Personally, I can't wait to play Counter-Strike, but the sole reason I would install Windows XP on my macbook is to play games, and because a workaround hasn't been provided yet, I'm not installing.

So basically, its not that a driver needs to be found, a driver is there, we need to override the WinXPonMac VGA Driver without breaking the boot sequence (which shouldn't break even with a new driver). Some speculation has lead some people to believe the reason we cannot get hardware acceleration (native drivers) is that the firmware on the Mobility x1600 is a custom firmware for mac, and if this is the case, a more elaborate solution would be needed.
