I am having an interesting problem. When I boot into XP everythings seems fine for awhile--mouse and keyboard function normally. I would expect this since I think that USB is supported natively by XP. The bootcamp software say nothing about adding drivers for USB mice or keyboards. After a few minutes the system beeps like it does when the system discovers new hardware. Nothing appears on the console but the keyboard ceases to work. Here's the weird part: the mouse continues to function normally but no keyboard. Very hard to run XP or anything else without an input device. Anyone know whats going on here? I am on a 20" iMac and using the standard Apple wired mouse and keyboard.

I believe it is due to the first batch of keyboards that Apple sent out with the Intel iMac's. They have a faulty hub built in. I'm returning my keyboard tomorrow for a new one.

I have noticed this problem when playing games. Another person has the same problem on their MacBookPro.

Can you please provide more info about the faulty USB hub in the keyboard? Is there an official Apple support note about this, which I can refer to for the exchange (if the problem is related to this)?

i thought this problem had something to do with bluetooth, because when i move my kb around a bit, it fixes it self...

i dont think it is a hardware problem, its a driver issue... coz uninstalling the keyboard HID in the device manager and rebooting xp fixes the driver...

it turns out that my problem was the keyboard itself. i had a spare apple keyboard that looks exactly the same as the one that ships with the new imac.. i bought the spare probably a year and a half ago...

i switched the keyboards out and it works fine in xp. no problems at all. it is the same model number as the standard keyboard... pretty weird. the first time i booted after i replaced the keyboard it installed (new?) drivers and prompted me to reboot.. now i have no problems.

i wonder if they will replace my newer keyboard if i take it to the apple store or if they will refuse because bootcamp is unsupported.. guess we'll find out

I'm having this exact problem. I just bought my 20" iMac last week, so it isn't just a case of a "bad first batch" of keyboards. And it is odd that my mouse continues to work even though it's plugged into the USB hub on the keyboard.

i have this problem too. i think it has something to do with...the fact that apple keyboards use an extension cord ? i can't test this theory by plugging it in directly because i can't get the keyboard any closer.

on top of that i've been getting blue screens of death again. more often than usual with an xp system. whatt the heck? is this is a windows related issue, a boot camp related issue, or a hardware?

i got my first blue screen of death last night after installing the new Intel Chipset Software specified here (http://forum.onmac.net/showthread.php?t=994) ... it also crashed on me when i was adjusting the brightness of the screen once ... could be a boot camp or driver issue

Went to my supplier and had them replace the keyboard. Went home and it works fine in Windows XP (especially with Half-Life 2).

anyone find a solution for apple keyboards automatically disconnecting yet? i don't think everyone could go get their keyboards replaced.

I was having the same keyboard issue using a new Apple usb keyboard bought for a customer of mine. It's a mini core solo 1.5. I didn't play with it enough in os X to know how it performed there. I was too busy dealing with the XP side of things. I got a cheap kensington usb keyboard and have not hany problems so far.

Whenever the keyboard stops working, you can pull the USB plug and change USB port. Then Windows will discover the keyboard again. I know this isn't the best solution (after all, the keyboard stops working every 20 min), but it's the only one so far.

I will also like to join all the people who are having this problem. I got my new Mac 20" 2 weeks ago and its giving me the same problem - the apple keyboard that came with the computer flashes its green light after 10-20 minutes and stops working - the mouse keeps working. The keyboard starts working after unplugging it and replugging but there should be a better solution.

I am not sure if one should contact windows (microsoft) or apple for this. It seems that some people have had success with changing the keyboard - I will try to get a different one and see if that works - the only problem is that the keyboard gives me absolutely no problem on Mac OS.

Hi,

i have the same problems to, the keyboard stops working after several minutes on xp. I read this in the Apple Discussions maybe we should give it a try:

Ok, finally got it to work. Once in windows, copy the driver installer .exe file to the hard drive and run it from there. Works like a charm.

I'll give it a try when I'm back home tonight

I'm having the same problem. I just plugged a Dell keyboard I happened to have lying around into one of the USB ports on the Mac keyboard. The USB ports are still functional after the keyboard craps out.

My keyboard works fine is OS X but only worked once in XP. The keyboard no longer shows up in the XP Device Manager. What to do?

whatever you do, do not discard your mac drivers CD. all you have to do is re-install/repair your drivers, and it'll work again. =]

whenever windows informs you that there's new updates for your computer, don't click on it...it'll just override all the apple functions on your windows. the apple software update system is what really does all the updating.
