MacBook Pro: Headphone Jack Not Working

Has anyone else experienced this?

I see the optical light coming out of it so I am guessing the jack is fine ... but it doesnt seem to recognize when the headphones are plugged in.

Any possible solutions?

Read the readme that came with Boot Camp. It's a limitation of the driver. You can download the driver recommended by the XOM project to get headphone-only output.

If you mean that sound is coming out of the computer speakers and the headphones at the same time, that is the normal behavior with the new drivers for Boot Camp. I'm sure Apple will work this out eventually...

Now if you are trying to use regular analog speakers or headphones in Win XP and the red light is on, it won't work...you need to disable the digital output (red light). Check this link out:

Hmmm...

While I see the red light (on my MacBook Pro), my analog headphones work fine when I plug them into the port (of course, the speakers continue to play too, as described in the posts above). I'm not sure that disabling the optical port is necessary to allow analog devices to pick up sound via the port. That's not the way my system functions, anyway...

Here are some drivers for the mac and windows. The sound driver will disable the on board speakers and allow only the headphone jack to work. So you can either plug in headphones or external speakers. Not the best solution, but works for me.

I haven't tried the XOM driver (honestly prefer to wait till Apple fix it)
Although the speakers staying on even with headphones does get annoying.

From Apple Bootcamp FAQ

While booted into Windows XP, I still hear sound coming from the built-in speaker even with headphones plugged in.

The Boot Camp Beta audio driver for Windows XP does not currently support rerouting sound.
