View Full Version : Bypassing OS X to use Windows drivers for a USB pointing device

I feel a bit guilty about asking the OnMac community for help without having first contributed aything, though maybe someone's had the some problem as me.

I've got a Wacom Volito 2 graphics tablet, which doesn't play well with the built-in Apple Ink stuff, and for which only exists Windows drivers. Since I've had success with other Mac-unsupported USB devices in Windows running in Parallels, I thought I'd at least be able to install the Windows drivers and have it work in this OS, even if it doesn't work in OS X.

However, on running Parellels and plugging in the tablet (with USB auto-connect turned on) or selecting the tablet in the Device menu (with auto-connect turned off), I'm without exception presented with a message saying:

"USB device you are trying to connect to the virtual machine is being used by another process. Wait 5-10 seconds, then try to connect the device again. If this does not help, find the application that blocked up the device and disconnect it manually".

The tablet is sort-off supported in OS X as a bog-standard pointing device, so I guess what is happening is that the OS is grabbing control of this before Parallels has a chance to, and the success I've had with other devices (like the Nintendo WiFi adaptor) is down to them not being supported by OS X at all.

So, does anyone have any ideas how I might get this working in Parallels? I guess some solution may involve knocking out Mac support for USB pointing devices entirely (which I wouldn't mind as long as it left bluetooth useable), though I've no idea how this might be done.

You could also submit a bug report to Parallels and see if they develop a solution.
