Everything has gone right except for the installation part. I used an OEM version of xp sp2 to create the cd. On my mac, the blue windows installation screen pops up but keeps requesting that I put in the windows xp sp2 CD. Can someone let me know if I need to buy a retail version?
cheers.

Have tried several times and still no luck. Can you tell me what files should be on the root of the win xp disc?
Funny thing is that when I put the disc back into my pc it boots up as a windows xp installation disc....
HELP ! !

From what I have read, there is a special checkbox that needs to be checked that doesn't exist in Nero 6. I believe you have to d/l Nero 7 in order for this to work.

I had the same problem as the OP, but I was using Nero 7. It was a Dell XP Home SP2 cd.
I also have the same 3 files as the OP.
win51 - 10 byte file
win51IC - 10 byte file
win51IC.SP2 - 10 byte file
not sure how to fix it though. I'm just gonna try a different cd of XP Pro SP2 tongiht.

i had a pre-sp2 xp pro disc. i created a sp2/I386 folder in nero7 and copied the extracted files from sp2. the size grew to 800mb so i had to burn that on a dvd.

Looks like a retail version might do the trick, however, bad timing for me right now since I'm out of work ! !
I've tried doing different things but believe it to be the fact that xp is not retail. Can Anyone prove me wrong.

i would guess it strictly has to be xp pro sp2 retail version? nothing else would work.

I used a Dell OEM SP2 Pro disk to build my install and it booted just fine. Requires the OEM serial that came with it, though, if you don't specifically use an OEM product key like you got with the disks originally, it won't work, downloading a retail version product key will get you no where.
Sorry if this is crossing the legal threshold, but since I no longer use my Dell my OEM disk is legal to use on my MacBook now for a single user license, just thought I'd help another OEM person.

There seem to be some differences between the different versions of windows xp install discs. Only some specific ones work with this process.
I also have a legal copy of windows xp pro install disc which i don't use anymore at home. its windows xp pro without sp2 and thats what causes the setup to fail (asks for sp2 disc in drive a)
all i am trying to figure out is why my pre-sp2 install disc would not work.
i guess it would be easier if i just went and bought windows xp pro with sp2??

All I have are XP SP1 disks. You can easily create (Slipstream) to a bootable XP SP2 disk.
The instructions are fully and easily layed out here:

I installed it using a regular OEM disk on a mac mini - no problems.
Alep85, I don't think you're supposed to use windows that came with your dell. I think the OEM versions are licensed for only one computer and you can't move it to another system. The retail version can be moved as long as it's only on one computer at a time.

Can someone tell me if these files are copied over while copying all contents of xp disc or are these files hidden? Them seem to be missing from oem version.

In other words, if I buy an oem version it should work instead of buying a retail version, yes?

Following instructions on winsupersite I was able to create win xp pro sp2 disc and it worked. I am up and running. Now to figure out how to get it to connect to the internet. Thanks maconlysource!!

I'm saying that the OEM disk that I bought at Fry's when I bought new memory worked fine on my mac mini, except for I can't get the video to full screen(I think it's at 1280x1024). I used one of the xom.efi files posted in here for mini users, not the one that comes from the download package on the front page.

I've tried the slipstream but no luck, only thing that changed with that I got an upside down windows logo and found out my partition was #&*&*&.
Had to re-partition again both mac and xp and once again tried oem but no luck whatsoever with slip stream. My oem is SP2 and below are the files I have in the directory of disc. As you can see missing some files from a retail version.

I was able to create a sp2 slipstream disc and install it. i did get the inverted windows logo when i tried to press F2 (mentioned in step#11). try the alternative by ejecting the cd instead. that worked for me. its a little tricky to do. are you trying to install this on a iimac 17 inch?
