Howdo folks,

First time poster, long time reader...

Really stumped here. Got a brand new iMac 20-incher, osx 10.4.6 with all latest updates both soft and firmware and I followed the directions of the boot-camp wiki to the letter up until the point where I have to issue the diskutil resizeVolume command. Here's the play-by-play

diskutil list
/dev/disk0
#: type name size identifier
0: GUID_partition_scheme *232.9 GB disk0
1: EFI 200.0 MB disk0s1
2: Apple_HFS MacHD 232.6 GB disk0s2

sudo diskutil resizeVolume disk0s2 162G Linux LinuxOS 20G "MS-DOS FAT32" WinXP 50G
Password:
Started resizing on disk disk0s2 MacHD
Verifying

Resizing encountered error The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972) on disk disk0s2 MacHD

Anybody got this error before, or even what it means ?

Thanks in advance.

Well folks I got the error under control.

I should have thought of it first; when OSX reports left-field error messages first do the basics: repair volume, check permissions.

There was an error on my OSX volume; so I booted the OSX install disk and ran the disk utility to repair the main drive.

Once rebooted and back into OSX, the diskutil ran perfectly.

Maybe we should add this to the FAQ ?
