A few years ago, when I was still playing with Linux, I remember seeing a device, a switch that allowed you to select which of two hard drives to boot from. You'd set the switch to A, install one OS to that drive. Switch to B, and install a second OS. No grub, no lilo, two OS'es installed like they were alone. Can this help any of you?
Disclaimer: I'm a bottle of wine deep when I write this.

Sounds like an interesting idea - may work later with the PowerMacs (renamed to MacMacs?). However, the Macbook and the iMac are very compact which makes throwing in another HD very difficult

Yes, I remember seeing that on The Screen Savers. It involved having a switch so that when the switch was set one way, Drive A would be set to master and Drive B to slave, when flipped to the other, Drive A would be slave and Drive B master

I anticipate that the replacement "PowerMac" will be simply called "Mac Pro." It will be interesting to see what it looks like, becuase while i dont think it will remain exactly the same as the G5 Powermac, I can hardly see how that design can be improved upon.

The design is already gorgeous - im sure most will agree. I would imagine that if they do change anything, improvements will be made on size - I can see it shrinking a little with smaller cooling needed and maybe reducing the wasted space with the big curvy arches for handles on the top.
I imagine they will keep using aluminum, retain the little holes for air, and keep firewire, USB, and digital out on the front.

I haven't been paying all that much attention for the last few years, but there used to be a few WinDoz laptops that let you easily swap out the primary drives.
IBM definitely had an easy pop-out core drive in the past and both IBM and Dell used to let you drop a drive into the drive bay which could be swapped with a battery, floppy, or DVD drive.
The bay drive could be the master without a problem. Of course it made it a pain to play a DVD...
It's great when you have to travel and live off a work box without vilolating all the security rules of the co you work with.
