The only thing standing between me and a new Mac is knowing if Solid Edge will run effectively within XP/Parallels. Has anyone tested this combination?

I'd ask Solid Edge - just did that with another program (flight simulator) and learned that they just had set up an iMac to test it and it worked nicely under BootCamp. I suspect the same for Solid Edge as graphics access is much faster under BootCamp.

SolidWorks 2006 works 100% under Boot Camp. I have not tried parallels yet, but knowing the video drivers on parallels are not accessing the V card at its fullest, I would think a solid modeling program would run on parallels like it runs on a regualr PC with onboard graphics card...in other words, alittle crappy. But i think its worth a try.

Not a little crappy. A lot crappy. It's not that parallels doesn't use the hw video to its fullest. It doesn't use it at all. All video access in Parallels is 100% emulated, which makes any apps that demand somewhat fast video response mostly unusable.
