I have parallels desktop 1.0 installed and xp pro sp2 working fine. Problem is that Windows doesn't show the correct hard disk size, showing only 8 gb disk... disk image is instead 20 gb... I have tried expanding and plain disk image, but it doesn't change. Even tried FAT32 and NTFS, no change... can anyone help ?

I have exactly the same problem and am also looking forward to a reply.
Apparently, when I initially set up Parallels, I didn't use a large enough disc image and immediately upon installing Windows, started getting messages that disc space was dangerously low. I used the Parallels image tool to expand the disc image, and it even shows in Windows "My Computer" as total disc size but space available is really small, given there's only one modest application and very few files installed, other than basic Windows XP. I also have the virtual disc image expanded to 20Gb and 1.4Gb shows up in Windows but it doesn't actually recognize it as usable space. Someone said I have to re-install Windows in Parallels to take advantage of the larger disc image but it sounds like they're mixing up issues with Boot Camp, which I also have installed...

I ahve the same problem!
I have 250G on the hard disc. I went through the expansion format in Parallel. WHn I open the parallel it shows 128G, whch is the maximum, but when I go to the properties on the c drive it shows total of 8G, of which 3G is occupied with Windows and Norton software. It appears that the window based software occupy large space under this setup.
I joined this forum, hoping I could find the answer. It appears taht we did something wrong during the installation of either Parallel or XP.
Can anyone help please?
