Hello,

I have a problem when I try to add many subfolders containing music
to Windows iTunes from a HFS+ formatted drive.

I have a desktop PC running XP (SP2). I copied the
\iTunes\iTunes Music folder to an external LaCie drive,
attached via Firewire and formatted with HFS+. (I have MacDrive
Version 6.1.4 on my desktop PC. The same version for
Windows XP on my MacBook)

Then I attached the drive to my MacBook. When I add the iTunes Music
folder to the Mac OS version of iTunes everything works fine.

After that I booted Windows on the MacBook and tryed to do the same
with the Windows iTunes version. iTunes starts importing the
music folder (with it's subfolders) and then it hangs.

The same happens when the iTunes Music folder is on the intenal
Mac HFS+ partition. So it seems that it does not matter whether the
music folder is on an external HFS+ formatted drive or on the Mac
partition of the internal drive. I also tested with the LacIe drive
attached via USB. Same problem.

I can also reproduce this on my desktop PC, when I try to add
the \iTunes\iTunes Music folder from a HFS+ formatted drive.

However, everything works when I try to add the iTunes Music
folder from an external drive formatted with FAT32. It works
without any problems on the MacBook under Windows and Mac OS X
and also on my desktop PC.

Also everything works fine when I add the subfolders from
iTunes Music folder on a HFS+ formatted drive one after other
(so not at once)

The problem occurs only if a try to add the entire iTunes music folder
with all it's contens at *once*.

The problem occurs with MacDrive 6.1.3 and 6.1.4. I have tested
with iTunes 6.0.5.20 and 6.0.4.2. Same behaviour.

When the system hangs the CPU is utilized 100% (actaually
53% on the MacBook since it has Core Duo). All the
CPU power is consumed by iTunes. Although a shutdown of the
system is possible Windows hangs at "Saving settings" screen.

The iTunes music folder contains about 6300 files organized in
1600 folders and has a total size of about 36 GB. So importing
1600 folders one after other would not be a good workaround :-)

Has anyone experienced something similar ?
Any suggestions ?

I had the same problem with an earlier version of macdrive (when I was using it). I turned off the option "Keep my iTunes Music folder organized" under "advanced" in Preferences and I never had the lock up again. You dont need that option turned on if you music folder has already been organized by itunes in the past.

Interesting to note that the "Keep my iTunes Music folder organized" option works fine when the music is located on the primary drive that iTunes is installed on. The issue only seems to occur when you have the music on a mac formatted drive while using the windows version of iTunes and macdrive to see the disk.
