Has anyone managed to get F8 to work. Normally it would bring up the Windows boot menu.

i think we are having a problem with graphic drivers because of the way the CSM was written.

I would appreciate a response from blanka or narf on this issue.

safe mode works

forcing VGA does nothing tho.

if you force VGA from the boot.ini your windows gets {censored}{censored}{censored}{censored}ed

I understand your confusion as most motherboards and bios use f8 to start in safe mode. Press f5 right after you select windows to boot and voila. A boot menu for safe mode.

Also, I thought it is intesting to note that the generic driver used for our custom xp disk hardcodes the video driver that everyone is having a problem with into the registry. If you boot into safe mode, low and behold, same driver, still hardcoded. Check the properties of the card and you will find some interesting things.

F8 does work but it is a bit iffy. I had to press it constantly during the startup process after selecting Windows boot.

If you have the g enter g enter sequence make sure that you press F8 repeatedly just after it.

Some people say that F5 works. Hit it immediately after selecting windows on bootup.

somehow for me neither F5 nor F8 is working. After trying to install vga driver for the mini xp wont boot anymore. I always get stuck at:

I saw your postings in the video driver thread. I have the exact same problem:

2000:something WRITE DHCHS (numbers) LBA (numbers)
2000:something WRITE DHCHS (numbers) LBA (numbers)

then it hard locks.

Does anybody have an idea? I actually saved a working hardware configuration before, but I do not know how to activate it.

Maybe the recovery console - but how do I get there? I always though you get there using an xp cd, but when i boot a cd (tried 3 different ones) I get directly to the setup screen, where you choose the drive for the xp installation.....

If you have used FAT32 for your Windows partition you should be able to see it from the MacOS desktop. You can then edit with TextEdit the boot.ini file and add /basevideo at the end to force Windows to use VGA mode. This solved my video problem after a driver install went wrong. You can also add other tags. see: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=239780 for more
information.
