Hello,

i have ported Nicholas Boichats Linux tool for the keyboard backlight to Windows. With the GiveIO driver from http://irdeo.de/ntdriver.zip and the tool from http://jakobonline.de/xponmac/win-macbookpro-tools-0.1.zip you can set the Keyboard backlight brightness. Installation instructions are in the win-macbookpro-tools-0.1.zip archive.

Greetings!

It doesn't work for me. After installing the Giveio.sys file (It showed intalled successful), when I try and run the win_applesmc I get a message that says "Couldn't access GiveIO device. Please check if you installed the driver properly"

Well after stopping the driver and then restarting it, it now works on my MBP. The problem is that I have to Stop and start the driver evrytime the computer is booted for the program to work. :(

It would be great if the driver could be fixed and someone port it into an XP service so its activated evrytime Windows loads.

Yeah i noticed that you have to restart the loaddrv.exe everytime you reboot. I will check if there is a way to install the driver permanently. (Using the GiveIO driver is not a very clean solution, writing a real device driver would be, but i dont have the time for that at the moment)

First time installing of driver:
Copy "giveio.sys" to the folder "c:\windows\system32\drivers".
Start (doubleclick) "Loaddrv.exe"; in the field "Full pathname of driver" write "c:\windows\system32\drivers\giveio.sys".
Push the "Install" button.

Start giveio.sys automatic on every bootup:
Open "Control Panel"; open "System".
Open "Hardware"-tab.
Open "Device Manager".
Open menu "View"; choose "Show Hidden Devices".
Expand "Non-Plug and Play Drivers".
Open "Giveio".
Open "Driver"-tab.
Under "Startup" choose "Automatic".

Restart Windows XP.

Now you can use the "Keyboard backlight brightness Utility" posted in the first post of this thread for turning on the keyboard backlightning.

Awesome, this is huge!

Now I say we take this and create a nice installer and enable it to work with Input Remapper in the same way that the keys work on the Mac side and we'll be in business!

Fantastic work, and one more reason to <3 my Macbook Pro!

Had this same problem, I tried running everything, following the instructions, and then running every program again. However, when I restarted and tried again, the giveio device was there.
