View Full Version : Sound not working on MacBook + XP

I have looked all over the web, and I can't find a solution to the problem I'm facing :(
I've tried letting the boot camp driver package install the drivers by itself. I've tried installing them manually. I've downloaded the driver package from the Intel site. I've tried going into the device manager and manually updating drivers for every unidentified object, but none of them seem to want to function as my sound card. Which I detest them for.
I don't have the problem with the internal speakers constantly being on, since I have *no sound* whatsoever. Everything else seems to work fine, though.
The how-to's and run-throughs all mention things I can't find. A sigmatel thingie in the Control Panel - isn't there. WDM drivers manually to be installed - did it, nothing happened.
When I install the drivers manually, it completes. It reboots, then tries to continue. I get the "these drivers aren't blah blah blah", meaning it exits the install, but nothing has changed whatsoever. Just that I've got a new thing to deinstall using Add/remove programs without it actually doing anything.
Been trying for 2 days to get this to work.
Assistance please? :(

do you have the latest version of bootcamp? Apple added the drivers for the macbook after the release of the macbook. if you downloaded bootcamp before apple released the latest version of it, then it won't work.

I have 1.02, re-downloaded it just now to make sure, drivers are the same as on my first cd. I did the OS upgrade before running it, there are NO unupdated OS X parts left (just to make sure).
I know it's a SigmaTel 9220 chipset, same as the MBP.
It's so frustrating that *everything* works, even installing DX9 on the wench and running some games (which whine about no sound, but otherwise run perfectly) and then downloading winamp and realising "oh yeah, no sound" :(

Sorry, it's been a while since I used the old Sound Card drivers from XOM, are those the ones you said you've tried. Also, you could always try doing the firmware update again (just grasping at straws here).

That's the point, IS there a firmware upgrade for the macbook 13"? I haven't found it anywhere. I only see MBP and mac mini firmware upgrades.
And I did try the XOM drivers, even though they're linked as being MBP drivers (they have the same chipset so I thought I'd try them as well). Those are the standard Intel ones, if I'm not mistaken.

edit: installed KB888111 for XP sp2 manually, then the apple drivers would install. after that did the fix that's suggested in the stickied topic up there, and now it works perfectly :)
This forum rocks. It's a wealth of information that's otherwise quite difficult to gather :)
Thanks!

I've spent quite a long while Googling today and I'm at wits end.
I've got an Intel iMac 17", with boot camp 1.1b and XP installed. I burned the drivers CD and installed them, and everything just went peachy. I got audio during the install (after it installed and started the driver), then rebooted to get video.
That was the last I heard any audio out of the thing. Next boot up, Windows found a bunch of "unknown devices", and the Sigmatel service will no longer start. Device manager doesn't show the audio device at all and of course nothing will use it. Everest detects it, but that's not doing a lot of good. :) Trying to manually reinstall the Sigmatel drivers from Apple's cache in Program Files results in a dialog basically saying the audio device doesn't exist.
So in the hope of narrowing down the problem, I uninstalled all the Apple drivers I could find, rebooted with no devices plugged in ('cept kb/mouse), and reinstalled drivers again. Again, audio worked fine.
To make a long and boring story short, the audio and video drivers will not co-exist. If I uninstall the ATI drivers and reboot, I get audio. If I install the video drivers again, the audio instantly quits working (doesn't even require a reboot -- the device just disappears from the system). I can't find any sort of conflict anywhere.
Anyone have any problems like this? Ideas on how to fix it?
Thanks!

No problems like this at all...
As for ideas.....
I'd try the official ATI drivers, or the Omega Drivers wich are newer versions anyway....
Maybe there are compatibility fixes in them...maybe not....only chance to find out, is trying them out :D

I eventually got frustrated with it all and just reinstalled from scratch. Second time around it worked fine. *shrug* I think I must've dinked with something in the settings when I installed the first time because I haven't really seen anyone else having similar problems. It also would only recognize one of the cores, and now it recognizes both.
