I was having a ton of issues with the installation freezing after choosing the Windows flag. It seemed as tho it would sit there for way longer than 2-3 mins...
I decided to try another XP disk... I used a RETAIL copy of Windows XP Sp2... and then I used the following XOM.efi file...
Now I am able to get through patching, and I am currently formatting Partition 2 to NTFS Slow...ie: not quick...
I will update this thread upon completion... Fingers are crossed...

Where did you get that xom.efi? It looks like the alpha one I posted which is meant for 20" iMacs and will freeze at Setup is copying files.

I don't remember, but you are right, this one freezes at that exact spot... Did you use a different xom.efi File?

Yeah it is the one I posted...you probably won't get anywhere with it yet..sorry!
edit: yes me and blanka created this last night after finding the 20" iMacs fill size. This at least got VGA working. I'm surprised it works on the mini at all though.

It just hangs for me... But I am thinking... I have already formated to NTFS now... do I have to go back and reformate the "xp" partition to FAT32 in OSX?

You shouldn't have to reformat. Did you rebless the system with the new file? Or just place in in the directory? And where is it hanging at?
Steve1496
17th March 2006, 11:51 PM
-Sudo CP to /System/Library/CoreServices and Rebless with new xom.efi
-To be on the safe side, I would actually format the XP partition. Setup may have left files there you don't want there again.
-Reboot and try again. As a consequence on the mini, the CSM does take a little over 3 minutes (disregard what you've heard about 2 minutes).

yeah I reblessed... I just hit enter and it went further, then froze before patching.. Then a few mins later i hit enter again, and it patched fine this time.. Now it looks like it is setting up some files...but the video is now HUGE, as compaired to what it was last time when the setup froze...

So XP is not displaying off center though? If your monitor supports it, make the picture smaller using your monitor's menu or use AutoAdjust.

Yeah just tried that... XP is cut... the bottom 1/5 th of XP can't not be seen... So Because when i boot the mini i get the choice and that is off center, is this an issue with the .efi or is this an install issue...

But OS X is still booting at the correct resolution?
And hey, look at the brightside, at least we got your XP installed! Obviously it's not usable at this point, but we found part of the problem.
As a last resort you can try to reinstall XP.

Actually...I just thought of something. Since your xom.efi is not a modified one, not sure if this will work, but you can try it:
Turn on your mac. When you turn it on, scroll to the Windows logo. Do NOT hit enter. Press F4 then F7.
If it worked correctly, you should see X Resolution [some value here]:
type in your correct resolution (1024). Hit enter. Do the same for Y, change it to 768.
Leave the rest of the values as is by just hitting enter (framebuffer, scanline, video card, etc).

I am assuming you have patched, and setup the NTFS on partition 2...
After that I had to pop out the cd...and then when it booted to continue the install for windows, I had to put it back in...

Now, just to get ethernet and graphics working.
On a side note, without installing drivers it recognized my USB-SPDIF adapter (Turtle Beach Avantage Micro) and I have audio. w00t!!

Incidentally, I did my install with WinXP SP2 OEM (not retail) volume license pack. Also of note is that I'm on a Mac Mini Core Solo

After it reboot the computer and go in the same screen has in the previous post.
I have tried to do the g and enter trick a lot of time.
But it doesn't work, I still hang on the shell prompt.
I have started from zero, delete and re create the C partition and format it with the install xp disc, the result is always the same.
What can I do ??

I have been trying to get XP installed for a few hours on my mini, but somehow it won't start the 2nd phase of the XP install.
First the setup:
- Mac mini Core Duo, 2GB RAM, internal HD partitioned to 30GB (for XP) and 40GB (for OSX), Apple Cinema Display HD 23", USB keyboard, Mighty Mouse
I have installed the mini xom.efi file and blessed the folder. Upon restart I get the Apple logo/windows logo, slightly offset to the top left. If I select windows + enter and just let the mini sit, nothing happens. I have to keep F6 depressed quite a while until it finally starts the patching part and starts the installer.
There I select the 2nd partition (the 30GB one) and format it (tried all options (FAT32 and NTFS, fast and slow). Then the installer starts copying and a few minutes later it restarts itself when it has reached 100%.
Then I get the Apple logo again and I select the win logo and hit enter. The logo changes to a grey Windows logo and just sits there. I let it sit for over 10 minutes, nothing happens. (Hitting enter also does nothing).
Rebooting and hitting F4 at the Windows logo + enter shows me the following:

What I did was hold F6 and when the cd stops spinning, I hit enter. Also make sure you're using the mini specific xom.efi and change your resolution under OSX to 1280x1024.

I have the same problem width a german xp version with an adjusted TXTSETUP.SIF. This is on a cdrw. Strange is that i had the exact cd without the adjsuted txtsetup.sif on a regular cd that worked and still does. Unofortunatly i just can't install from that due to the wrong txtsetup..... I reburned the cdrw and tried again with no luck.... this time however right after hitting return on the windows icon the process halts with some 'int 21 called from bla bla' message. I think I'm going to try and burn a regular cd again, cause I'm desperate....
*edit*
Aparently my saved project had the wrong image file linked to. After pointing it back to the boot.img file the cdrw works now. This is a bit strange since I'm sure i saved the project right after burning the first working cd. Maybe something to doublecheck for you...

I can't download the new xom.efi - I keep getting the login page over and over again, implying that I don't have permissions to download the file. Obviously my login works, because I'm posting this.
Bump. Same exact behavior here.

Sorry guys, I'm at work and don't have access to the file. Maybe someone can pm Steve?
Here's another link:

Good Luck!
(Ignore this link, it's just a reference to the file you all can't get to.) Sorry.

Success on the Core Solo Mini. Thanks to all who posted the solution and helpful advice.
I worked off a Volume License version of English SP2 and the MacMini XOM.EFI. Had to hold down the F6 key (just before text screen) until patching was successful and CD stopped. Then hit the ENTER key. After that got into the XP partition screen and all worked smoothly without a hitch from there. XP even rebooted itself after finalizing the installation (no hanging and manual power down like the instructions).
I used Fat32 for my XP partition, and also set the resolution to 1280x1024 first from OSX.
Some minor issues after installation
- sometimes the Mini's power LED does not come on booting into either OS.
- setting resolution below 1280x1024 in OSX and then rebooting into XP (no powering off) screws up XP's screen size (viewing just a corner of the desktop)
- XP shutdown requires Mini to be powered off manually, also no standby from XP (have not installed chipset drivers yet, maybe that will help)
Good luck to others...

I've successfully installed XP on my Mini coresolo but it won't boot with the HD when I select it at the start of the mac (I have installed XOM.EFI 15 or 16 March version). What happens, please ? (partition problem ? ntfs or fat32 must be used ?) Thank you for all that you do.

No, that DOES NOT WORK. I keep getting the "vBulletin Message" that I need to log in, over and over again. Can someone PM me the file or repost it in another message, please?
ADDED: Discovered the problem. You must use a PC to download the file; this forum is incompatible with Safari. How stupid is that?

You can easily download it using another browser: I did it with Camino (http://www.mozilla.org).
The problem is related to a site incompatibility with Safari.

After a basic XP install the core duo mini hooked to a viewsonic 19" monitor has no problems with resolution, shifting of the screen image off center of the monitor, or the int 13 hang on restart listed several times above, etc... bring the mini home, hook it up to a sony trinitron 17" monitor and the resolution gets hosed, the screen gets shifted off center and the int 13 hang on restart error comes back. Restarting, selecting windows, F4, F7, custom set the resoltion each time and then after the int 13 hang Hitting g enter g enter gets me back in business though.

Help. I need the special macmini xom.efi file, but everytime I try and download it, I get kicked to the login/unauthorized page. I've registered and confirmed for both the forum and wiki, but it does no good. What am I missing?

If it helps, my xomhelper application will install the right version of the xom.efi for you, and bless it, as well as allow you to make the CD on OSX.

Am I the only one who is unable to download the MacMiniXom.zip file? When I click the link to download it, I get a prompt to login. I login and it asks me to do it again.
Thanks in advance,

Had the same problem and tried to get help from all over until I had a brainstorm and used firefox to download it. Must be something with Safari because firefox downloaded the file. Hope this helped.

When it prompts for you to login, just press refresh. Viola.
