I would like to propose to the moderator(s) to start separate Troubleshooting Threads for each of the Intel Macs. I find it difficult to wade thru all of the threads only to find out that they are talking about troubleshooting advice for a different model than what I have.

Perhaps we can start here for us 17" Intel iMac owners only? Does your dual boot setup work? If not, what problems are you encountering? How did you fix it?

Mine freezes up at the point where I am to wait 2-3 minutes. Nothing happens after that. Not only am I not able to get to the Select Partition screen in XP, it looks as though something has erased the MS-DOS partition, which BTW is now listed as a 200mb Partition 1 instead of 2.) I can't erase it again in Disk Utility as it is greyed out and will not mount. Have to Erase and Partition the whole drive again and start over.

Anyway, I'll check back once and a while. I am not going to waste another weekend. Children are more important than computers. Life is too short. Good luck! :)

P.S...One more note. I don't like being listed as a "Mac Newbie" as it is far from the truth. Perhaps being listed as an "On Mac Newbie" would be more appropriate? IMHO

I'm having the same problem. I've gone through this routine 5 times so far.

Process:

Boot to OS X CD. When I partition the disk, the installer then tells me OS X can't be installed on either of the partitions. To fix this, I wipe the disk with the terminal command:

diskutil erasedisk UFS UntitledUFS disk0

Then I'll partition the disk as per the directions and install OS X on the OS X partition.

I'm able to bless the xom.efi file, and boot to the XP installation. I have that same problem where partitions listed in are not correct. The ms-dos partition is never listed as "Partition2"

I've tried still installing XP on to the ms dos partition, even though it's not listed as "Partition2". After the initial reboot, I get the upside down Windows icon. At this point, I've attempted to boot to the XP CD again. This hangs with the screen displaying "Press any key to boot to CD" and a lot of colorful text.

This is as far as I can get with the XP installtion. I've tried partitioning all different ways... Making both partition sizes equal, XP bigger, OS X bigger, OS X the first partition, or XP the first partition. I'm not even sure which partition is supposed to be the "first". The one on the top or the one on the bottom???

Nothing seems to result in the MS DOS partition being listed as "partition2" in the XP installation screen.

I'm using a 1.83 17" iMac, 2GB RAM. I'm hoping someone else has had this problem and can provide assistance. Thanks very much in advance
