maybe it sounds a bit silly ... it sudden struck my mind that can i ONLY have winxp in a mac book? meaning only 1 os - winxp. without mac os.

my intention is to have only winxp in the mac book since i'm not really a mac guy ... and i happened to get hold of a mac book at a good deal.

any idea guys?

Do a search on this site, under boot camp as I believe this has been discussed and someone was able to load just XP.

The main issue as I understand it is the EFI bios that the Mac uses. But if you totally blow away the Mac partition, which I believe you use the Mac disk utility for, then you should have a straight ready machine.

I was tempted to do this but first wanted to get a 2nd physical drive. After reviewing all the steps required to remove the hard drive and install the new one, I left it alone. On the Macbook, this is much easier to do, but on the MacbookPro, it's IMO rather involved and doesn't lend itself to easy changes.

One issue is the lack of true XP drivers, most of which so far have come from the mac side. You still need the mac OS to get the bootcamp drivers, and create the file to exe in Windows. (At least I have yet to see a downloadable windows only version of the drivers). So as updates come out, you would need to get someone with a Mac to get you the updates to excute.

Even with 1.1.2 of bootcamp, there are at least 2 PCI devices that XP can't identify.

Also I am not sure how the April 2007 Leopard OSX will handle Bootcamp. Supposedly it will no longer be a beta, but offically supported.

ok, thanks for the information.

so at your point of view, doing so is not really a good idea .. i didn't know that even with bootcamp, there are still 2 unresolve devices...
