View Full Version : Airport Issues in Mac OS after Dual Boot

This is strange: After setting up WinXP on my 2nd partition and rebooting back to Tiger, my Airport no longer connects to wireless networks automatically. I have to manually select my wireless network whenever I move between home and office, an issue that is minor, but slightly unsettling.

I wonder if anyone else is having this issue, it started immediately after setting up dual boot to XP and getting all the drivers (including wireless) working. Could the WinXP use of my Wireless NIC be causing this?

Not a biggie for me, but yes the wireless won't automatically connect.

Same issue. Does it have to do with the dual boot though? People are having the issue without it? I wouldn't notice because i bought my MBP the day of the release of XOM. But I have been posting some stuff over on the Apple forums discussing this issue. it's a real big PITA! Check it out! (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1827016&#1827016)

I do notice when I start playing with the network setttings and do a repair disk permissions it works for awhile.

The airport in the new macbook pros has this problem, it seems to be with rebooting and settings. Happens all the time. It's OS related, even if you have automatically connect to preferred networks....

Did it on my old powerbook too. I used to go and delete like 10 preferenced files and eventually it would go back to normal.

I think it started for everyone after a the last security update.

I have the same problem in Mac OS X on my 20" intel iMac. I haven't tired the Windows install or anything for it but, it's an existing problem in the OS due to a recent Software Update. Hopefully Apple will fix it soon :)

Well I've been trying all sorts of things for 2 days. Today I tried renaming my Airport network. Then running the Network Diagnostics to reset the connection. And it hasn't had a problem connecting since. About 10 reboots and 5 or 6 sleeps.

I'm pry cursing myself.

I'm glad it isn't related to dual-boot, that worried me. That means Apple can fix it in an upcoming update.

It was working on my old 1.83 MBP, then I exchanged it for a 2.0 and the first thing I did on the 2.0 was partition, format, and put XP on it, so I thought it was the dual-boot situation.

Whew! I can live with it, if I know it isn't permanent.

Thanks all.

Does this happen with the 1.1 version of the recent update? I noticed recently that Apple released a v1.1 of the recent security update, and it might address the issue.

Right, same here after last security update on 20"iimac. Has nothing to do with Windows install
