I've got to the stage of installing XP on my Macbook Pro 1.83ghz.
However when I select the windows logo and press enter nothing happens - it gets stuck on the greyed out windows logo - after a wait of >10 mins still nothing has happened. I tried pressing f4, f7 and going through that route... The same thing happened (although at the top left 'setup is inspecting your computer's hardware confuguration..." appeared...
After about a minute of the wait each time the cd stopped spinning quite so fast and stopped spinning at all after about a minute more...
any ideas?

Drive A? That's odd. But does Windows install correctly after this?

i know tis very wierd - and no I can't get past this message: pressing enter merely annoys it and asks you again for the disk, no other buttons do anything except f3 which cancels the install...
I'll try and borrow another copy of XP pro from somone else... it might just be my copy

Yes, First of all, The disc will not work. Why? It may be some sort of error( not using nero, using x-cd-roast, using terminal incoretly/ using linux). Second, if you use the f4 command, it allows you to see what is going on, f5= roms on/off (causes install to fail) f6=? f7=graphics edit, not neccesary to edit. If, just for fun, you use the f4 command to see what is going on(NOTE: This does NOT affect the install) you will see that it freezes after saying something like: patch (x) (x=whatever, i dont feel lke writig it out) was found at (x) and (x). then it will say patch comleted. The blue screen will say "Windows is being started" and it will freeze. (or it will freeze after an error noted on the screen or "patch not found"
Right now i'm making a cd using NERO (finally) and i'll see if I can get it working.

Do you by any chance (any of you) know what the FCUK you are doing whan you do this. First, Kantara (nice name), one of the fallowing is happening to you:
1. You did not bless the xom.efi file....
Solution: My way to do this is double click on you Macintosh HD Drive. Next hold down the "?"(command) key and press the "n" key. As the folder name, type "dualboot" (omit the quotes). Next download the xom.zip file from the main site(which expands as "xp" on your sesktop). Open the terminal {(?+SHIFT+u) and double click on terminal). in terminal type( for the remainder, omit all quotes and remember this is case sensitive and ":"=new command):
:cd Desktop
:mv xp ../
:cd /xp
:cp xom.efi /dualboot
:cd /dualboot
:sudo bless --folder . --file xom.efi -setBoot
now input you login password and quit terminal.
restart your computer... there should be a blinking folder with "?" on it... this is normal
2. You forgot to select xp.
Solution: when the system boots, hit the down arrow and you will see the Windows Flag icon... press enter.
3a. Your cd is not being read. In this case, you should be seeing the XP Flag turning up-side down when you hit enter
Solution:
a. use a cd-r (cd-rw's don't work)
3b. the cd is not in the drive/ is upsidedown
solution: You are an idiot... shoot yourself in the head...many times
-or-
stick in the cd in the slot...rightsideup
p.s. if you needed to read this solution.. please get diagnosed for a learning disability/shoot yourself.
3c. Try burning another cd, using NERO burning rom 7 and remember to "finalize" the disc.
4. Your computer might go directly to the black screen
Solution: This IS perfectly normal.. I think.. you probably shouldn't worry.

You all are idiots. Xp will cease to install and will probably try to reboot.
Why? Because you are and idiot who didn't read the FAQ and are using a service pack 1 or no service pack at all CD. You need a SP2 CD to complete the installation. -or- were stupid and hit f2 when it said something like "press f2 to start ASR- automated system recovery"... try not hitting f2 in that case

Hi Rayne, are you crazy to speak to others like this ? you have answered in 6 threads with answers like this. You know there is always somebody better than you for something and you are better than others for toher things. It's NOT a reason to speak to the other with these words. Smoke something and keep it cool please

This helped. I had one disk that did have a flipped color logo and will use F4 to diagnose the issue with it. Thanks!

I would be interested if you can try my xomhelper app and let me know if that burns a good CD for you from OSX....I have tested it with XP_PRO_SP2 on a Dual G5 tower, 20" Intel iMac and MBP....so just a thought....it is rough around the edges but it will install the correct xom.efi for you and allow you to make the CD.

I've got the xom file working. It's the CD that has been the issue. I have Nero Express and that was what was causing the grey Window logo. I could set up the disk but it wouldn't alow me to use the boot.img file. I had to use their premade boot image. The disk that was at least giving me a fliped color logo was made using the tool posted in tools section under 'Users' on the Wiki. (http://wiki.onmac.net/index.php/Users/Tools/XP_CD_Builder) After using F4, I discovered that it was saying the disk was trying emulation to boot and then relised that I had not added the patch files to the image (they were still set up for Nero). After fixing this and recreating the ISO and reburning it, was able to get the '2000:0EFE int 13_48' issue to start showing up.
Since I don't have a SP2 CD, I am also using a Faq suggestion (http://wiki.onmac.net/index.php/FAQ#Will_this_work_Windows_XP_SP_0_.2F_SP_1.3F) to create a SP 2 disk using NLite (http://www.nliteos.com/nlite.html). Right now, when I push F6 after waiting the 3 minutes or when the disk is spining, I get a patch files missing error. I might have screwed up the disk so I am going to atempt to recopy, renlite, remaually patch, and reburn to see.
If this doesn't work, I'll give your tool a try. Send me a link. Thanks!

Well with my tool you need a mounted image in OSX or the actual SP2 CD so you can give it a try if you want.
It is in the main forum, heading xomhelper.

I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro asking me to insert the XP SP2 CD into my A: drive. Oh and by the way, I know what I am doing, and the CD is correct, and I used Nero to burn it. The only differences between my installation is that I burned the CD using Nero 6 instead of 7. However I don't see how that should matter. Has anyone found a solution to this peculiar error?
Thanks,
Mike
