So I was feeling adventurous. I decided to remap my VGAsave regkey from xmod.sys to vga.sys and now I can't get past the grey windows startup screen.

Is there a way I can boot into safe mode so I can stick my old registry value back in there? I'd really hate to do a new install

after hitting enter to start booting Windows, press F5 to bring up the typical boot screen that f8 usually brings up.

Ya know, I never tried F8 (20" iMac, because I read in the forums it didn't work and had to use F5 (which DID work for me).

Wonder if F8 works on mine..if not then what is the difference, xom.efi versions?

thanks for the tips. I'm on a 20" iMac, just to clarify, and pressing F8 right after selecting Windows at the bootloader did the trick for me. Buuuuut it still wouldn't boot in safe mode so I reinstalled. Got everything working but the wireless drivers that the wiki links to. Anyone have a solution for this?

I thought I'd chime in & say no luck getting Mini Duo to safe mode, with either the xom.efi that comes with the download nor the one I had to use to install--I tried pressing both F5 and F8 (and others) immediately after hitting Enter to boot XP and none seemed to work.

FWIW, I couldn't install with the xom.efi that came from the download site (it stuck on copying files), but I was able to install when I found the xom from this thread (http://forum.onmac.net/showthread.php?t=153&highlight=mini+xom.efi) (but it isn't the first link! it is the link from Steve1496)
but that one doesn't appear to have proper video support--accelerated graphics drivers didn't work--I went back to the one from the download & it appears to work..

Slightly off topic:

Rooster, which video driver instructions did you follow? the ones for mthe wiki for the mini? And, did you replace the xom before or after the driver upgrade?

I pretty much followed the installation instructions off the driver page to a T, so it was the Dell drivers, then the Intel Drivers, etc.
I booted with the xom from the thread I mentioned, and then once I had installed, I used the original one.

haven't had luck w/ 3d accel on DVI myself... :-/

even more off topic, there's also one that reportedly came from the testers forum & was reported to work. http://forum.onmac.net/showpost.php?p=871&postcount=7
don't know much about it--I can install with it--haven't gotten to 3d install yet.

If you have used FAT32 for your Windows partition you should be able to see it from the MacOS desktop. You can then edit with TextEdit the boot.ini file and add /basevideo at the end to force Windows to use VGA mode. This solved my video problem after a driver install went wrong. You can also add other tags. see: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=239780 for more
information.
