I've created the proper partitions, and in the right order, but when the windows installer gets going, I get this message: Please insert Windows XP Service Pack 2 disc into drive A and press Enter.
This is before any drivers are loaded into memory and before selecting a partition. I've tried two different slipstreamed discs, but keep getting the same strange error. Any ideas/suggestions?

make sure you have the following files in the root of your cd:
win51
win51ip
win51ip.sp2
(or win51ic if you are using home instead of pro)

Problem solved. I burned another slipstreamed CD, which works just fine. Just another 'user error' I guess.

I have the same problem and burned two discs already. I checked if the WIN51 adn WIN51IP are in the root. They are there but where is the root? Right under XP_PRO_SP2?

win51ip.sp2 is not in my root directory. Do I need it ?

I tried the suggested solution to this problem (ie. insuring that files win51
win51ip
win51ip.sp2 were present), but still have the same message: insert windows xp service pack 2.
I have a 20" iMac with 2 gb ram and 256 vram. Any suggestions?

Try using xomhelper to make the slipstream CD.....most are having success with it.
