Yeah there isn't really a power management system stack built for this machine...so it's just using the windows one. So don't expect great battery life just yet.

WinXP has a bug right now with Intel Centrino DualCore chips... you cant get very far over 2.5 hours of battery life with Windows XP right now... Microsoft is working on it now, though.

Do you have a KB article admitting the bug?

I have a feeling that because Windows XP doesnt make the notorious "whine" noise because it's never really "idling" or using the CPU more efficiently.

The bug's been posted in every major magazine, slashdot, betanews, thehotfix.net, the most notable articles concerning this can be found in the magazine MaximumPC. As for links, etc. I don't really have time for that right now... I'll look for them later. In the meantime, if you don't believe me, you might want to google the problem yourself. You'll find that every single dual core notebook is not able to reach 3 hours of batter life. Although, they should easily achieve twice that amount.
You really must have kept your head buried in the sand not to have heard abou this... (no offence)

The extra load on the CPU could also explain why there is no "whine" on Mac when running Windows XP.
