Since my MacBook Pro is only days away now I am beginng to prepare everything I need to setup dual booting as one of the first things I do.

My only access to a Windows PC is at work. I can use this to setup the CD. However whenever I try to download the Nero 7 Trial from the web site linked to by the Wiki, the application crashes several minutes into the process of downloading the application. So I do not have Nero.

I understand there is a method of preparing the CD using only the Mac, which I am happy to use. However I wanted to ask why Nero is required for use. The only reason I can find for its use is to create a bootable CD with the Joilet FS. Is this correct? In which case, is it not possible to use other CD buring software? Roxio CD Creator (already installed) can create a bootable CD using the Joilet FS and the options seems to be similar to those set in the how-to.

Would anyone like to hazard a guess as to whether this will work? I have not used Nero before so do not know if it does anything special.

You can also try the Windows XP CD builder... I think people are having success with it... http://wiki.onmac.net/index.php/Windows_XP_CD_Builder

Hope that helped (by the way, wait till Nero is downloaded before running it - I would use Free Download Manger to make sure you downloaded it correctly...)

I created an .nrg file following the well known process, using Virtual PC on my "old" Powerbook. Then i dragged the .nrg file on the mac desktop ( copy ). Then i dragged the file which has an Iso - icon to the Toast Icon in the dock. Toast started and gave me the option to mount the Image or burn it. I burned it and got my slipstreamed bootable WinXP Cd.

Worked best for me.

From OSX use XOMHELPER to create the CD....Easy enough. you can find it in this forum, will work on PPC or Intel OSX versions.

What didn't work, just out of curiosity...I tested it on a MBP, 20" iMac and G5 machine for making of the CD....

I started XOMHELPER but after 3 hours of waiting i didn`t get any usable file / ISO. Probably i had to install fink and the dev tools as mentioned in the HOWTO about the Installation Process?

Nope, absolutely not, everything is self contained in xomhelper....you might not have had enough available free space on the drive where you choose to put the TMP files, or the ISO, or both.

Make sure you pick a volume with at LEAST 700 megs free for the TMP and another 700 megs free for the iso.....if on the same volume, you need at least 1.4 gig available.
