Just got a MacBook Pro. Have spent all day trying to install Linux (Mandriva) for Dual Boot. Can't seem to get the partition table / boot loader working and after a whole day of playing around and searching, I've discovered that:

A hybrid GPT/MBR partition table can only contain 4 partitions, and does not support MBR extended/logical partitions.http://www.brad-x.com/2007/07/26/configuring-a-macintosh-system-for-triple-boot/

And from http://refit.sourceforge.net/myths/ I see that you need MBR partition table if you want a video BIOS to get proper video support. (IS THIS TRUE FOR NVIDA as well?) So it seems I can't go GPT only.

So is there any way to have multiple linux partitions or am I stuck with only / and swap. I definitely like having a separate /home partition at minimum for upgrade/backup purposes. And usually more.

Thanks in advance from someone new to Macs,
SP

Yes, you can. In fact, the post in that other forum is not entirely accurate; it is indeed possible to create more then four partitions on an IntelMac -- but not all OSes will be able to recognize partitions beyond the first four, so the order of installation becomes very important. Billbear figured out how to make it work, and posted his experience in this thread (http://forum.onmac.net/showthread.php?t=2793).
