hey guys,
first post, but I've been reading since the beginning.
alright, people keep mentioning drivers for the x1600 in the macbook pro and iMac, but last time I checked, one housed a desktop x1600 and the other one, a mobility variant.
So my question is simply, are these 2 adapters really all that similar that one driver should work for both?
Thanks to all,
Daniel

Last time I checked, Catalyst drivers worked for all ATI cards. It was just a matter of identifying it in the .inf files, and ATI does not add mobility information to those files at their website (that's why you can get the Mobility Modder from Driverheaven to do it for you).
But then again, some people have mentioned that the X1600 in the Mactels have different firmware, but I have no idea if anyone confirmed this or not.

well I was just on the ATI site, and when you go to the download driver page and choose Windows XP, you get a choice of either downloading Radeon (catalyst) drivers or "notebooks with ATI Graphics", which brings you to the Catalyst mobility 6.3 download page.

(although I do realize the x1600 mobility isn't listed there as being supported)
Anyone try the catalyst mobility drivers specifically on the macbook pro running xp?

I was wondering the same thing. Some people are saying both iMacs and MBPs have the mobility version of the x1600, but I don't think that's true. System information on my imac doesn't say anything about the x1600 being a mobility variant, neither does Apple :P

Thanks for bringing this up - I tried to point it out in the display driver thread... Although the iMac lists it as an x1600, the Apple site specifically mentions the MBP as having "the not-so-subtle ATI Mobility Radeon X1600." (http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/graphics.html) - I'm pretty sure the iMac one is the desktop variant.
Can anyone with better knowledge gleam any info from this pic of the iMac ATI card?
