performance hit because of Bios translation?

hey guys,

just wondering how much of a performance hit we're taking because the machine has the translate any BIOS calls into their EFI quivalent.

Basically, the way I see it, we've added a layer to the whole process haven't we? (not to belittle the solution... I commend all the players involved in making this happen)

I'm just curious if it has a substantial impact on performance?

From what i understand, the EFI translation is done only during bootup, however, there is not much hit at all to computational speeds as seen in my Cinebench 9.5 comparison:

Look at the CPU figures in particular.

yeah I've read your thread. nice to see similar numbers for anything CPU intensive (obviously graphic heavy benchmarks will take a direct hit)

as for the BIOS thing, I was under the impression that windows talks to the BIOS as well...

Windows does make calls to the BIOS during operation, but nowhere near as much as on bootup. However these BIOS calls, because the CSM we have not a full one, could cause some functioning errors using external devices (such as USB). I've already experienced one error which relates to this issue--WM5 Activesync.

What I'm curious about is how nobody has talked about GPS on their MacBook Pro. Macs lack good GPS software, and if GPS devices work in Windows, I know it'd make a lot of people happy. I could test this out for someone using StreetMaps 2005 with GPS, if they'd like.
