Forum,
I am an "educated novice", so if this question was already covered, my apologies.
Can you use an external firewire drive to install osx/xp dual boot? I have a macbook pro, and it would be more convienient for me to have XP and OSX installed on an external drive so I can boot both OS's when I dock my computer. I am using the mac primarily for digital music recording at home, and would like to have XP available for certain music progs that are not avail in universal binary yet.
So the scenario would be...
firewire external with osx/xp at home...
osx on internal when on the road...

Any advice would be appreciated.

xp cant boot of external devices (something to do with the startup process reinitializing usb/firewire ports mid-boot, i believe), so while you can boot of the drive for OSX, youre outta luck (for now at least) with XP

This is contrary to other posts on this forum. Several users claim booting XP off an external USB is no problem for them. I've not tried it myself, but if this is the way you want to go, search for it on this forum.
