Congrats! Hopefully this doesn't require any modifications that aren't reversible, and can make MacOS and Windows XP fully coexist together. Can't wait!
Oh, and this should work for a Macbook Pro too, right?

this is excellent. I like how he has the found new hardware screen up to show that it is running natively and talking to hardware.

Take a close-up snapshot with the Device manager window located close to the apple logo on the front bezel. Especially with the Disk, Display and Processor tabs fully expanded.

Would these hacks apply to the other 2 Intel Mac models as well? I would think that the integrated Intel graphics might pose a problem.....

well done,well done!
i'm just wondering how this can be validated? if, as someone has stated, there is some serious hacking of windows code needed to get the job done, well, then there is probably quite some ms-lawyers watching this site, waiting to shut it down as soon as the details are posted... just like with the maxxus/osx86project case.
hope he still gets the pot though, if he's done it he deserves it.
and, get through with it, i'm waiting to place my order at the apple store:D

Congratulations Narf! Well done! Send the instructions into Colin as soon as possible :)
I'll offer to help verify the validity of his process if Colin needs some people to help verify it.

@narf: I have a shiny new MacBook Pro, unaltered, and a fresh copy of XP SP2 still in the box right next to it if you need any help testing on a MBP.
I'm happy to help. :)

I too can help test if this is needed as I have a 17" intel iMac. Otherwise I await eagerly like everyone else. Good job! Oh and on a side note if anyone has been talking with narf how goes the drivers in XP? Do normal XP drivers for video and the like work or is it just a base install right now? I'm specificly curious about Sound and the x1600.

Right. 'Cause we need those to play PC video games on a Mac ;)
Right in time. My MacBook shows up this week.

Ok, a great hacker you are, but a photographer you are not.
Let me make you an offer. Once you submit it to Colin for the contest, and he has verified you as winner, PLEASE let me shoot your proof photos. I have a kickass Digital SLR that rocks for this sort of thing.
Seriously, it's a great way to test it on a MacBook Pro too...

Well not just that. Ever try to use windows without a video driver? It works sure but...BLAH it refreshes like crap. Sounds is just a personal goal point.

Per my last post...
Here's an example. (http://www.john7.com/media/single_user.jpg) - Single-User Mode anyone?
Let me know and I'll shoot plenty for everyone to see. =) (I feel like a guy at a job interview.)

So windows will run without hardware specific video drivers? What kind of refresh rate are we talking about here?

Bad enough that if you scroll a window or move something around you can watch it get redrawn. Also you can forget any fancy graphics or 3D

There is already a Radeon x1600 driver in development for Vista (https://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=19933), and it is already supported for XP. (http://www.hothardware.com/viewarticle.aspx?articleid=756&cid=2)
We should also note that the Mobility Radeon X1600 will be fully supported in the Catalyst Mobility driver suite, so notebook users won't be left waiting for driver updates.
Click on Driver Release Notes (https://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=640)
That should work.

Well, I'm convinced anything will look good on that monitor! Sweet.
Where's the boot menu to go to OS X or XP, though. It's seems to me even if you're in the process of "setting up" XP, that menu should still be there after you restart the computer.

i am really excited about this. I just want to play some games and maybe use a few small programs I've found for Windows over the years.
With this latest video, I am very confident about it.
