Do I need to have a 32 bit version of windows vista to install on my intel core duo mini OR can I use the 64 bit version?

Which version can the intel core duo support?

thanks

All Intel based Macs are 32-bit is my understanding. But "should" be upgradeable to 64-bit chips as they use zif style sockets.

According to an article I saw on Gizmodo, the Core Duo chip is 64bit. You can check it out for yourself:

I've read it, but I have read something from Apple that they aren't. I personally hope they are, but at this time we won't know until somebody installs a 64-bit version of Windows.

No there not(Offically). They won't work in 64 bit.

Yonah's are cut down cores of cpu's that arn't out yet, and 64bit registers have been disabled(Probbly cut). But they are still there. But will never work

Well, Hi I'm knew and I thought I have something to say in this :)

Okay so, I was searching the Apple webiste and found this: http://www.apple.com/imac/intel.html

It says that they are 64 bit! I hope that isn't just shown because of Leopard because Leopards not out so its a good asumption to think that the Mac's we have now are 64 BIT. YAY, MB!

Since Apple is the only way to get the drivers you need for the Intel side, (that I know of), no point in considering 64 bit as Apple has no support on the Windows side for any 64 bit drivers.

True but are you sure about that. I don't know, I'm just wondering :)

IMO it's very dependent on the platform.

On a laptop, most devices that need drivers, Video, USB, keyboard,PCI Bus, DVD, etc are all contained on the main board. Thus it's up to the laptop company to create the specific driver that works with the iteration of the board.

With a White box Desktop (home built) you can pick and choose the components and more and more the vendors are including 64 bit support. This is especially true with the mainboards like ones from Asus, Gigabyte, etc.

An example of a driver issue IMO in the current environment, look at the Macbookpro, video, uses the Radeon x1300. You can download 64 and 32 bit drivers for the ATI supplied x1300, but not for the version that is on the Apple planner used on the Macbook pro. I have tried the ATI generic drivers and they won't completely load erroring out. It's all a crap shoot.

Now add 64 bit to the mix and it just gets even uglier. Hopefully most of this will be gone a year from now as 64 bit OS's become more standard.

Just one person's opinon.

That is also my understanding. It will be nice when Leopard is released with full support for Vista drivers in Boot camp!
