Techworld.com reports that a company called Parallels will be announcing their virtualization product for Intel-based Macs later this week.

According to a company representative, "We will enable users to run multiple operating systems (like Linux and Windows) simultaneously with Mac OS X".

This is distinct from the dual-boot solutions that have been previously described. Instead, users can run these alternative operating systems in a window under Mac OS X.

Several have suggested that this functionality could increase Apple's marketshare with businesses and consumers alike. WSJ Online notes that Japan's Aozora Bank Ltd. is already making the move to all Mac. They are planning to switch all 2,300 of their personal computers to Mac. The bank cites the strength of Mac OS X alone as the reason for their switch. Other surveys, however, have suggested that a large number of consumers would switch to Mac if also given the ability to run Windows easily.

More details on Parellels' solution should be available later this week. Microsoft has been said to be working on an Intel-version of Virtual PC as well, but no timeframe has been given.

Not to be Flamer, But this seems like an ad to me... not only that the reason people are on this forum is to get windows and other Os's to run native on the Intel Macs, not to use some poorly conceived software... If wanted a program we could have just got WinTel or something thats already out...

That's the one and only solution, thanks to Blanka and Narf and this forum. Any other depiction is a lost of time.!

Well it is not an advert, he has just copied and pasted the article from Macrumors.com.

And it is not a poorly concieved piece of software. Essentially Virtualisation allows multiple Operating systems to boot on your machine at native speeds, at the same time. So you don't have to reboot into windows.

So the advantages are very aparent. And I will use this when it is released. However, There are advantages to the OnMac project too.

1. No cost, opensource. The Virtualisation software will cost money.

2. We can use it now!

3. This project is looking at how to get drivers working in Windows XP on the mac which will be usefull when people use Virtualisation.

4. This project aloows you to run Just Win XP (If thats what you want). Where as the virtualisation will work over Mac OS X.

Note also that virtualisation runs at native Hardware speeds, and is not translating code on the run etc or emulating any harware environment(except tricking Windows XP etc that they are running at level Zero on the machine).

Either way this is important news and is very relevant for the community served here on OnMac.net

Hopefully we see the Virtualised environment being released soon too.
