Hi,
While I am awaiting the arrival of my very first Mac, (MBP 2.16GHz), I though I would lay down the next question:
What are the Pros and Cons of XOM and BootCamp?

having been used both, I would say that comparing each other, Boot Camp will be far better solution because:
1. it's been developed by apple
2. you don't need any additional hacking of efi, etc.
3. installing XP on a Mac with B.C. is very very much like installing XP on a normal PC
-that means no resolution-shrinking on 20' iMacs, no freezing in the middle of installation.
4. restoring to only-OSX form is much simpler with Boot Camp
5. graphic drivers and internal speakers work very well on Boot Camp. In MBP's case, most 3D games out so far will run at its highest performance.
Although Boot Camp is at its early stage, and of course has some bugs present, I don't think that Boot Camp has much Cons compared to XoM. I'm running XP with no problem!

Boot Camp boots faster too, but I really miss the XOM OS choice screen... plus you have to hold down the option key to choose the OS in the bootloader. Otherwise, I think it just boots whatever OS you were using before (at least that's what it seems like).

I really miss the XOM OS choice screen...Try to install rEFIt, maybe it could let you choose between OSX and XP (and anything else...)

I have been reading that BootCamp it a 30 day trial only!
I am sure in 30 days are up XOM will have moved forwards quicker then BootCamp (I hope I will be able to contribute to this Open Source Project).
I guess once Apple come out with a non Beta version, they will be charging for it or package it with the next OSX release v10.5 (Leopard).

rEFIt doesn't support the new firmware's legacy boot right now, but I plan to work on that in the near future.

The system boots to the last choice you made in the Startup Disk section of the System preferences. So if you want to boot primarily to OS X an donly occasionally to XP, choose the OS X "Folder" in the Startup Disk utility. Whenever you re-boot whether from XP or OS X, it will automatically go to OS X. If you want primarily XP it's vice-versa. Also I agree, the one thing I do miss from XOM is the choice screen, love that crystal Apple and the Windows flag. But I'll take function over looks any day.

You might have Parallels confused with Boot Camp - Parallels have 30 day trial. I've heard that Boot Camp BETA is usable until 30th September 2007, according to Terms and Conditions. Might check it when I have time.

Yeah its good til Sept 30 2007 or when Leopard is released. Whichever is sooner. Definitely gives me incentive to buy Leopard. I kinda feel bad for all the PPC users who can't take advantage of this great feature.

I've tried both and here's my take on it.
Boot Camp - Apple produced and since they wrote OSX they have keen understanding. XOM while inventive is a hack that may or may not work in the future.
Boot Camp - a complete self contained solution. No need to download intel video drivers install them, download dell video drivers and install them over it (for the mini) and hope you don't brick the computer.
There's also no need to have a PC and download nero.
Eventually it will be supported by apple (once it goes gold). I'm not sure how much support they will provide, probably limited to using the utility and not related to configure XP.
Finally I really like how apple provided all of the device drivers, a nice touch. I was on the fence to try to implement the solution documented here to give my mini better video drivers.

I know as you people wait for your arrivals I would have to keep my fingers crossed in anticipation. I have realized this by now the things I am looking for wont be availed to me that easily and this has led me to believe after I encountered several failed attempts. Nowadays I do not even like to talk about it. Great to see everyone getting answers to their problems while I remain neglected.
