Hi,

I just tried out BootCamp - everything worked perfectly - the repartitioning, and so on. I booted up, used my WinXP Pro SP2 (volume license), and it started loading all the necessary drivers, showing them at the bottom of the screen.

When it finished loading the drivers, and showed that it was about to start Windows, i get a BSOD. The text on the BSOD says:

SESSION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED
blah, blah, blah ...

*** STOP: 0x0000006F (0xc0000020, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Does anyone out there know what to do? I've tried using another CD (same WinXP PRO SP2 Volume License), and still had the same problems. I'm pretty desperate right now.... please help!

Thanks

I have pretty much the same problem. I really need help. I am using a Macbook Pro which I bought yesterday, and Windows XP Home Edition (with service pack 2)

Both the firmware and OS X are completely up to date. I have tried several different times and I keep getting the exact same error message. Whenever I click on the install windows button in boot camp, it loads a bunch of drivers and then I get a BSOD error:

SESSION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

etc...

Also every time I boot it up afterwords it boots from the CD and I encounter the same problem. I have to hold down option and choose the HD to boot OS X. I've tried un-partitioning and re-partitioning several times and it doesn't help. There's not much else, if anything I can do.

Please help! This has happened at a very inconvenient time.

This means you actually posted "YOUR secret solution"??!! Last time I checked you had a break down because people were using Apple's solution instead of the solution that you are a 'moderator' of to get the video drivers working. (welcome to the world Capitalism, FYI ... where people don't care about your ego, but care about what works best.) Seems like it's working for everyone else but a few people. Perhaps it has to do with the version of your hardware?

I bought my computer yesterday, so it seems likely that there's a problem with the newer ones.

how much memory dod you have installed ?

Did you get it from Apple ?

Reason I ask is that i found my MiniTel to be very picky with respect to memory, I bought 2 x 1 GB sticks when I got the box 2 weeks ago...from the local Middle East Dist in Dubai.

Whilst all is well under OS X.. I get blue Screens and all kinds of Crap under BC, changing back to the original Apply Supplied Sticks (2 x 256) solved that problem...

(I could force the issuse und window$ by just running burn in from sandra, would not even last 1 cycle, with the original Apply 40 cycles !!!)

Well it came with 1GB of memory, but I added another 1GB stick which I bought at the Apple store. So I'm using 2 x 1GB sticks both from Apple.

Here's the error message I get:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

SESSION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow
these steps:

Check to make sure and new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer
for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware
or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart
your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then
select Safe Mode.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x0000006F (0xc0000020, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Are you trying to install XP Pro? If you search for "SESSION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED", you will find a lot of people with that error message. It sounds like the install CD failed to install all the files needed, or that you are using an upgrade version of XP.

Hello,

I got this very same error on a MBP core duo 2.16 2 gig of ram when i tried to install off of a retail Version of XP Pro. I do not know whether or not this will help but I shut the system down and let it sit for a while then I used an OEM XP Pro slipstreamed with SP2 and it installed fine. It is wierd that the slipstreamed verson worked and the brand new retail version did not. Sorry if this does not help but this is what worked for me, good luck.

I wish I had read that earlier. All I had to do was make a copy of the Windows CD, and it worked fine. The copy works. Not the original. Weird.

Hi,

I also have 2GBs of RAM, apple-approved Kensington models.

I finally got it to work using another Win XP CD that our company provides. I was originally trying to install the English XP version, but when I tried with the Portugues XP version, everything worked without a hitch.

The funny thing is that I tried the same english XP version in Parallels workstation, and got the same BSOD. With the portuguese XP version, it also worked fine.

So i suspect a problem with the media or specific version that I was using... but don't know enough to elaborate from that. Try getting a different media, or burning a copy or something.

I, too, got the "SESSION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED" error message when trying to install Windows XP into the Windows partition using Boot Camp Assistant. I'm proficient at Windows, but just got the MacBook Pro to dump Windows and join the stable world of Mac. Boot Camp seems to want to run into the above installation error when original Windows XP SP2 disks are used. Apparently, the DVD drive on the Mac gives Boot Camp problems when trying to install an original Windows XP disk. The trick is to make a copy of the original on your Mac, and use the copy for the installation. Thanks to TunaSushi for the fix tip. He suggested using a copy of XP, but didn't say how to do it on the Mac.

For all you Windows folks not familiar with the Mac's features for making a copy, here's what to do:

First, make sure you have removed the previous partition that wouldn't install Windows using the Boot Camp Assistant.

Go to this link for instructions on how to make a copy of a disk and print it out.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh1945.html

You will be first making an image of the Windows XP disk, and then copying that image to a blank CD or DVD.

Next, load the original Windows XP disk into the drive, call up Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility. You should see the XP disk in the disk drive on the upper left folder structure.

The copy of XP works perfectly in installing Windows on your MacBook Pro. Hopefully, on all other Macs, as well. Good luck.
