I have a legit copy of XP SP2 Upgrade. The instructions say you need a full version. However, some people say all you need to do is point the installer to an external CDRom when it asks you for the upgrade verification. My question is how do you ask the installer to point to an external drive for upgrade verification?
Thanks

Hi Adam,
Thanks for the wiki. I would like to clarify a couple of points.
Your instructions seem to indicate that it is easier to use the external drive method from what I understand. So here goes:
1. Connect USB external CDROM drive to Mac
2. Perform 'Boot Camp' procedures as necessary.
3. Insert Windows XP Pro SP2 upgrade CD in Mac CDROM.
4. Let the Windows installer commence on the Mac.
5. When it prompts for the upgrade verification media on the Mac insert Full Version of XP (or whatever 'full' compatible version; I have Win 2000) in the external CDROM drive.
6. Windows installer should automatically recognize the 'Upgrade Verification Media on the external CDROM.
7. The installation will commence as normal.
Questions:
1. At what point should one connect the external CDROM drive to the Mac. Prior to Boot Camp or after the Windows Installation has commenced?
2. At any point in this procedure will it be necessary to remove the external CDROM drive?
3. Does the external CDROM drive have to be connected via USB or can it be connected via Firewire as well?
I only ask, because some people say that nothing should be connected to the Mac during the 'Boot Camp' procedure or during the Windows install in order to avoid any problems.
Thanks.

Hi there!
The expternal CDrom drive does not work, someone added this line later after I wrote the howto, There ar eprograms out there that will slip streem Win XP home or Pro to SP2 so if you do have a full copy of XP then that will work for you. However it was easiest for me to use the 2 CD method this is the one I wrote. Fine the pid numbers you need and change the install file. Sorry for the confusion over that I will go in and take that line out. the problem with an external CD rom drive (atleast in the XOM method) is there is no USB sapport for a CD drive during install... Report back if it does reconize the USB drive.
thanks
Hope this helps
