Ok, so here is my problem. I have a copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 Upgrade. I usually use this to install Windows and when it asks for verification I use my full version of Windows 2000.

I've been trying all day to find a way to install my copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 Upgrade. I have created a couple of Windows XP SP2 disks with a copy of Windows 2000 in a folder to avoid the verification procedure. However I have been unsuccessful. I have tried to find a way to make this work but can't.

I know boot camp says that you cannot use the Upgrade version of XP to install, however, there must be a way you can do it legally. I do not want to download the numerous illegal full versions of XP on the web.

I'd appreciate it if someone can help me.

I'm pretty sure the only way people have gotten it to work without extensive hacking is putting the older CD in an external drive and selecting that.

Apple's instructions make it very clear that only Full Install Win XP SP2 will work and that Upgrade versions will not.

The reason why the Upgrade versions don't work is because there is no way to eject the disc without the Apple eject keyboard key driver, or rebooting and using EFI to eject the disc.

The way to avoid this is like someone said: use an external drive.

Get yourself a WindowsXPSP2 - cdkit. The time you loose in research will soon be more then the price.

To be clear, contrary to what Apple says, you don't need an SP2 CD. SP0 and SP1 work fine if you have access to a Windows PC. Just use a program like nLite to slipstream SP2 into your current CD, and then burn a new XP SP2 CD. It works great.

Could you please be very specific as to how you created a slipstream using nLite. I downoaded the program but BootCamp didn't recognize it.
Let me tell you what I have. I have Windows XP Home Edition but, the CD I have goes back to 2002 with no SP2 on it.
Thanks

It has been a couple weeks now since I created the disc, so it is hard to create a good comprehensive list of instructions. But if you can ask me specific questions, and let me know exactly how far along you are getting, I'd be happy to answer your questions.

I highly recommend AutoStreamer (http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=223562). All it will do is slipstream a service pack, but it does it quickly and without any chance for error. For what people around here need, it's a better solution than nLite with all its features.
