Sounds like you may have used a SP1 CD and not a SP2 CD.
I'm dealing with the same issue right now, hopefully just inserting a SP2 CD will fix the issue.

I had the same problem. Just solved it.
The problem (for me at least) was that I used only the I386 dir to slipstream SP2 in, then burned it with the patch.
The fix was copying everything on the XP disk (DOCS, SUPPORT, etc), and slipstream SP2 into that.
This won't happen if you follow the instructions exactly :)

I have this same problem but I am using a Dell XP cd with sp2 on it.
So I'm not sure if its just a crappy dell cd or what.
I guess i'll try to get my hands on a retail image.

I've tried using and OEM version of xp sp2 but no luck. I managed to get to choose on boot between xp and mac os. The blue install screen comes up and keeps requesting that I insert the windows xp sp2 CD....at this point nothing was loaded on my mac. Is it the fact that I'm using and OEM version? ? ?
Also, I don't get the support folder when transferring files from xp to windows machine...
I'm using a CD-RW, does this make any difference? ? ?
cheers

I have the following on the disc -
03/16/2006 09:46 PM <DIR> $OEM$
08/23/2001 07:00 AM 110 AUTORUN.INF
08/23/2001 07:00 AM <DIR> DOCS
03/16/2006 09:46 PM <DIR> I386
08/23/2001 07:00 AM 3,204 README.HTM
08/23/2001 07:00 AM 1,310,720 SETUP.EXE
08/23/2001 07:00 AM <DIR> SUPPORT
08/23/2001 07:00 AM <DIR> VALUEADD
08/23/2001 07:00 AM 10 WIN51
08/23/2001 07:00 AM 10 WIN51IP
03/17/2006 04:17 PM <DIR> sp2
Can you compare with what you have which worked for you?
Did you create sp2/I386 folder in nero?
I actually created sp2/I386 folder and then copied over the extract from sp2 there. Still no luck!!

To clarify, this error simply means that the installer cannot find files it needs on the XP CD. The "A drive" in this case is the CD, not a floppy drive.

You can't just copy SP2 into the CD and expect it to work, you need to slipstream it. There are many (http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp) guides (http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm) for slipstreaming SP2 if you google it.
